Elden Ring gives players quite a bit of freedom when it comes to crafting builds. Although some bosses and enemies have specific strengths and weaknesses, players can piece together specific armor sets, weapon types, and skills to create a Tarnished that truly echoes their chosen play style. But Elden Ring also offers its fair share of unique weapons and builds that help to break the traditional mold and offer players new and exciting ways to battle their enemies.

A good example of this is the Frostbite mechanic, in which players can stack Frost buildup on enemies. If enough Frost is built up on an enemy, it will trigger Frostbite, which deals great damage. Frostbite will also increase the enemy's damage absorption and lower their stamina recovery. Those that want to use Frost buildup as their main weapon should consider picking up the Chilling Mist Ash of War. Here's where players can find Chilling Mist in Elden Ring and what exactly it does.

How To Get Chilling Mist In Elden Ring

Players looking to get their hands on Chilling Mist will need to make it all the way to the Three Sisters sub-region. That means making it through (or going around) Stormveil Castle and heading all the way to the Northwest of Liurnia of the Lakes to take on Caria Manor. Once players make it through the manor itself, and have successfully defeated Royal Knight Loretta, they'll gain access to the Three Sisters. This area is noteworthy as it's where players will continue their questline with Ranni the Witch.

Once players have reached the Three Sisters, they need to head to the Northwest until they reach a large tower called Renna's Rise. Heading directly Southeast from here, down the nearby cliffside, players should spot a small set of ruins. Inside, they'll find a Teardrop Scarab. Defeating this creature will reward players with the Chilling Mist Ash of War.

What Does Chilling Mist Do In Elden Ring?

EldenRingChillingMistStats

Chilling Mist is an Ash of War, meaning players can imbue a melee weapon with it, giving them a new and unique ability that they can activate with FP. When activated, Chilling Mist first covers the Tarnished's weapon in frost. The frost is then flung forward in a sweeping attack, which releases the stinging element and coats the surrounding area in a thick cloud of Frost. Players can aim the sweeping attack before it occurs, giving them some control over where it goes.

The attack itself does damage and applies Frost buildup on the foe. The cloud it leaves behind will also continue to apply Frost buildup as long as the enemy is inside it. After use, the player's weapon will remain imbued with Frost for approximately 40 seconds, and each attack they land with their weapon will apply even more Frost buildup. This Ash of War can be a great way for players to quickly stack Frostbite onto an enemy and can be pretty useful against bosses that are susceptible to the status effect as it will also cause them to take additional damage thanks to its debuff. Chilling Mist costs approximately 14 FP each time it's cast, making it a relatively low-cost ability.
