On a Reddit thread started by user JTEE_AT_YA, players have been spending hours talking about Elden Ring bosses and which are the toughest. JTEE_AT_YA started the discussion with the suggestion that the valiant Gargoyles are hardest and quickly received lots of support from other commenters. Specifically, difficulty tracking them and their AoE attacks were highlighted as reasons that they should be considered the worst. Further, some argued that fighting two at once was the issue, and that the Valiant Gargoyles reveal a problem with Elden Ring duo fights. On the other hand, there were some other possible candidates offered by Redditors.

Challengers for the toughest boss included Malenia, Nial, and Leonine Misbegotten, with each boss receiving at least a handful of votes and different explanations for why they deserve to be classified as the most difficult. Figuring out how to beat Elden Ring's Leonine Misbegotten and these other foes is certainly a challenge and a case could be made for any of them, depending on one's perspective. It seems that which boss a player will pick as hardest depends, at least in part, on whether they feel more comfortable with fast and agile foes or slow and powerful ones. Another factor seems to be fighting style, with players choosing which boss is harder based on whether they prefer dodging, blocking, or parrying.

Difficulty is also a relative term. For some players, most of the bosses are nearly impossible and, on the other hand, some experts in the game find little challenge from even the most punishing bosses. For example, one Elden Ring player just beat the game without getting hit and using a saxophone controller. For the elite few who can move through the game at lighting-speed, challenge isn't really a factor. For everyone else, the debate will continue.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
