A talented Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree fan has shared an amazing piece of artwork depicting Messmer the Impaler, albeit with one adorable change. While Messmer the Impaler may be one of the toughest bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, this one change makes him considerably less menacing.

A lot of the conversation surrounding Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree right now is surrounding its difficulty. Even for a FromSoftware game, it seems to really challenge even veterans of the genre, which has already prompted the developer to make slight changes to the DLC's difficulty as a whole. Messmer the Impaler is part of this. As the cover star for the DLC, expectations were high that Messmer would provide a massive challenge for those looking to beat the new expansion. While there are guides on how to beat Messmer the Impaler in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, he still provides a massive hurdle for players to clear.

Elden Ring Player Beats Final DLC Boss Without Taking a Single Hit

An incredibly skilled Elden Ring player completes a hitless fight with the final Shadow of the Erdtree boss following a lot of trial and error.

Redditor pizzaember04 put a new spin on Messmer the Impaler, by giving his two snake companions tiny hats. This comedic image creates a great juxtaposition against the fiery artwork of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree boss, which by itself is already a fantastic piece of art. Although Messmer himself is still an imposing figure in the artwork, there's no doubt that the presence of two small snakes in top hats makes him a little less scary. Everyone in the thread loved the piece, with one user even directing pizzaember04 to share their work with the SnakesWithHats subreddit - it certainly fits the bill.

Adorable Elden Ring Artwork Gives Messmer's Snakes Tiny Hats

Some in the thread mentioned that they'd love this to be an official setting to toggle, although it would be quite out of character for FromSoftware to do this. However, perhaps the Elden Ring modding community could oblige in this regard. It has seen a resurgence in the wake of Shadow of the Erdtree, with plenty of awesome new Elden Ring mods being released at the same time as the new expansion. Giving Messmer the Impaler's snakes tiny hats in-game certainly feels within the capabilities of the Elden Ring modding community.

It remains to be seen if FromSoftware is done with Elden Ring. More DLC seems unlikely at this point, especially after the two-year wait for Shadow of the Erdtree. A sequel is possible, but FromSoftware has yet to confirm its next project at the moment. Recently, George R.R. Martin commented on Elden Ring movie / TV adaptation rumors, and it seems plausible that the IP might next return in another medium entirely.
