The crafting mechanic has been a point of contention in Elden Ring, with many considering it to be practically useless considering that players can easily complete the game without ever using the feature.
The hype around Elden Ring's highly anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree DLC was quite staggering, but the release has received a slightly mixed reception so far. While From Software has once again surpassed expectations with the scale and immersion of the world, some fans are particularly unhappy with Elden Ring Shadow of Erdtree DLC's difficulty level. Amid that, a few players have raised some more concerns over the game, focused on the loot this time around.
Elden Ring Players Are Encouraging Each Other to Break the Community's Unwritten Rules
Elden Ring players are now encouraging each other to break the game's 'unwritten rules' that some players impose on themselves.
In a new post on the Elden Ring subreddit, user Grunhir takes a funny dig at Elden Ring Shadow of Erdtree DLC's crafting books. The user uses the iconic lembas bread meme from Lord of the Rings to highlight the abundance of crafting books in the game. Several other players echoed their frustration with crafting books by further adding that the books containing only one recipe is something that is quite counterproductive. This has also brought back the age-old debate of the utility of the crafting mechanic in general, with many asking what item is even worth crafting, to begin with.
Elden Ring Fans Are Unhappy With Shadow of Erdtree DLC's Subpar Loot
The reservations of players aren't just limited to crafting books, as they are unhappy with loot in general. Considering that the Land of Shadow is an extremely unforgiving area that is already giving players a tough time, the fact that most of the loot comprises low-level Smithing Stones is something that some fans aren't happy with.
In all likelihood, most players who have completed the game and reached this far will have easy access to Smithing Stones. This is because players can get Bell Bearings and unlimited access to Smithing Stones via the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold. Of course, that doesn't include the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, which is required for the final upgrade.
If there were more Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone drops, players would have instead been more receptive about it, considering they are extremely limited in the base game, and the only way to get more is by starting New Game+ in Elden Ring. With how difficult the DLC is, players were expecting more items to make their journey easier, but are quickly being met with disappointment when they think they have found a strong new item yet instead pick up another crafting book in the Land of Shadow.
