FromSoftware has said that development on the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree is "proceeding smoothly." Elden Ring is easily one of the biggest game releases of the last five years, proving to be a monumental success in 2022 and still popular to this day. Considering the dizzying success Elden Ring has enjoyed, it's really no surprise that developer FromSoftware has decided to make DLC for the game.

FromSoftware has a history of developing DLC for its games, releasing critically-acclaimed expansion packs for its Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne, and more. Fans have theorized about potential Elden Ring DLC since the game's early days, and so many were excited when Shadow of the Erdtree was finally announced. Unfortunately, fans are still waiting to learn more about the highly-anticipated Elden Ring DLC, with FromSoftware only releasing a single teaser for it so far.

Time will tell when Elden Ring fans will get to learn more about the Elden Ring DLC, but FromSoftware has provided an encouraging update about the expansion's progress. FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa Corporation recently touched on Elden Ring in an earnings report, stressing that while it's still not ready to reveal the release date for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, development is proceeding smoothly. The report also mentioned FromSoftware's Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, revealing that the game has had a strong start with sales expected to grow this holiday season.

It's unclear when fans will get a more substantial update on the Elden Ring DLC, but a strong possibility is that the expansion will be showcased at The Game Awards 2023. FromSoftware has had a close relationship with The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley over the years, opting to drop the big gameplay reveal trailer for the game at Summer Game Fest a couple of years back and using The Game Awards 2022 to reveal Armored Core 6 to the masses. Considering this, it would make sense for the Elden Ring DLC to be showcased at The Game Awards 2023, but it remains to be seen if that will actually happen. Elden Ring fans may want to tune in to The Game Awards on December 7 just in case.

Whenever Shadow of the Erdtree is shown off again, fans will expect to learn the DLC's release date. It's possible, though unlikely, that Shadow of the Erdtree will be released before the year is out. The most likely scenario is that Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will release at some point in 2024, but fans will just have to stay tuned for more information on that front.
