Throughout Elden Ring, there are major bosses that drop Remembrances upon defeat. Not all bosses drop these unique tradable (or consumable) items, but the major Elden Ring bosses will – including ten new Remembrance bosses in the DLC. One of these new bosses that players will encounter toward the middle-to-end of the Shadow of the Erdtree is Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame.

All Major Bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

In the Elden Ring DLC, there are a total of eleven major Shadow of the Erdtree bosses, but you don't need to beat all of them to beat the DLC.

The Lord of Frenzied Flame boss is actually a failed Lord, according to item descriptions, but the Lord of Frenzied Flame Remembrance rewards are nothing to sneer at (and neither is his difficult boss fight). To learn how to get this item and what the Midra boss fight rewards, follow this guide which explains everything you need to know about the Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame.

Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame Phase 2 Boss Tips

To get the Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame, you must find and defeat Midra, the head of Midra's Manse – a Mansion of Madness that lies deep in the Abyssal Woods. To get to the Abyssal Woods, you must find the secret entrance beneath the main bridge in Shadow Keep, then continue downward until you find the Darklight Catacomb. Defeat the Inquisitor boss to gain access to the Abyssal Woods themselves.

Light the grace here, and continue forward to find that you cannot ride Torrent in the Abyssal Woods – the Spectral Steed is actually afraid, because the Frenzied Flame is one of the few things that can burn away spirits, and there is Madness in these woods.

What To Do With Remembrance of the Impaler In Shadow of the Erdtree

Players can use the Remembrance of the Impaler to get either the Spear of the Impaler, or Messmer's Orb.

Continue through the zone as you continue on the path southward, encountering Madding Hand (an NPC invader) and eventually finding a path that appears to lead further east. Take great care to Stealth past the Madness-infested enemies these areas and you will eventually find a mansion hidden in the Abyssal Woods. The mansion cannot be seen on the world map, as it is hidden beneath the bridge that connects the Dragon Terminus to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion.

Crepus' Vial, which prevents all sound caused by movement, can be a real boon in avoiding detection. Consider using a spell like Unseen Form to further boost your Stealth.

Once you reach Midra's Manse, head inside and continue through the short Legacy Dungeon until you find a massive painting of Midra himself and a woman named Nanaya (who can be found elsewhere in the mansion sitting on a chair). You can actually see Midra about halfway through the dungeon, and hear him moan as you walk on the balcony above the entry room of the mansion.

Roll into the painting to reveal a hidden path forward that eventually leads to the boss door on the second floor of Midra's Manse. Remember to light the grace, and kick the ladder down, to make it easier to get back to the boss door if you fail.

Consume It For Runes, Or Choose Between Two Midra Boss Items

Elden Ring Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame Remembrance Rewards

Once you beat MIdra and get the Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame, you have two choices: consume it for Runes, or trade it with Enia, the finger reader back at Roundtable Hold. All Remembrances can be traded for a choice between two (or, sometimes, more) boss rewards. For trading the Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame, reward choices include;

  • Greatsword of Damnation: A Strength/Faith weapon primarily, the Greatsword of Damnation scales well and deals a ton of damage with its Ash of War, Golden Crux
  • Midra's Flame of Frenzy: An Incantaiton requiring 41 Faith, this spell sees the player rise up and form the Lord of Frenzied Flame's head to create a Frenzied Flame explosion in the nearby area

If you want to get both Midra rewards, Shadow of the Erdtree players can head to a Walking Mausoleum or one of the several Remembrance graves in the Realm of Shadow's Finger Ruins. You can duplicate non-Demigod remembrances at any Walking Mausoleum that does not have a bell.

If you really don't want either the Greatsword or the Frenzy incantation, you can also consume the Remembrance for a total of 30,000 Runes.
