Elden Ring fans have been eagerly awaiting the game's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but a new rumor claims it's not coming until February 5, 2024. FromSoftware is known for expanding most of its games with DLC that adds new areas, enemies, items, and more, and so it's understandable that many Elden Ring fans are excited to see what the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion will have on offer.

At the time of this writing, basically nothing is known about the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Elden Ring DLC was announced earlier this year, but still is without a release date or proper trailer. Many industry events have come and gone with no mention of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but a new rumor making the rounds online claims that the expansion will be showcased at The Game Awards this December.

Twitter user Ziostorm has cited "unverified sources" that claim the Elden Ring DLC will be at The Game Awards this year with an announced release date of February 5, 2024. Obviously, fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt. February 5 is a Monday and game release almost always happen on Tuesdays and Fridays, so that already does a lot to cast this rumored Shadow of the Erdtree release date in doubt. However, it is easier to believe the bit about the DLC being shown at The Game Awards.

Elden Ring developer FromSoftware and Game Awards host Geoff Keighley seem to have a positive relationship. Elden Ring's big gameplay trailer was revealed at Keighley's Summer Game Fest, after all, and Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was announced at last year's Game Awards. Considering this, it really wouldn't be surprising at all for Shadow of the Erdtree to get a new trailer at The Game Awards this year, though fans should definitely keep their expectations in check.

The Game Awards 2023 will take place on December 7. The event will honor the best games that released this past year, but as always, it will also be packed full of big reveals and world premieres, giving gamers a look at what the future of the industry has in store. It's entirely possible the Elden Ring DLC will be one such project that's showcased at The Game Awards, but that remains to be seen. Even if Elden Ring DLC is a no-show, gamers should still tune in to The Game Awards, as there should still be plenty of big game announcements at the event.

Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
