Deathroot In Elden Ring is a Key Item Collectible found across the Lands Between that is a major part in both D, Hunter of the Dead's Quest Line, and Gurranq the Beast Clergyman. In terms of the game's expansive lore across its vast world, Deathroot is like the Rune of Death given form, and it's got some pretty twisted ties to Godwyn the Golden's tragic tale.

There are nine to collect for Gurranq to snack on, and they're gathered usually from either a fight with a Tibia Mariner or at the end of a Catacomb exploration, with each one having Gurranq reward the player in some beast-related way, so let's go over where each one is located in the world of Elden Ring.

Updated June 18th, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter: Hunting down Deathroot in Elden Ring isn't exactly the most exciting activity, and it's best not to do it all in one session. But, since so many people are coming back to Elden Ring in preparation for The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the importance of Deathroot locations has started to have a resurgence. When it comes to early to mid-game strong Incantations, turning in some Deathroot to Gurranq is a great way to grab some good ones. So, with that in mind, let's take a deep dive into where exactly players can find all these disgusting Deathroots.

Deathroot Rewards

Essentially, What Does Gurranq Give You

Elden Ring - Obtaining Beast's Roar In Exchange For Deathroot At Gurranq

Gurranq has a variety of great rewards for the player, especially in the early game, for each Deathroot given. From Seals to Beastial Incantations and even Weapons, Gurranq has a little bit of everything. However, each time he gains and devours a new Deathroot, he'll change a bit more, and if players finish his entire questline by giving Gurranq all the Deathroot, he'll actually have a bit of unique dialogue when the Tarnished then encounters him in Farum Azula as Maliketh.

Warning: After giving Gurranq the 4th Deathroot and reloading the area (or leaving and coming back at another time), Gurranq will be aggressive and automatically attack the Tarnished on sight. This aggressive state will continue until the Tarnished deals 1k damage to him (without dying of course). After that, he'll calm down and will be in his usual spot once the area is reloaded again.

That said, his Questline isn't what's important now, as players just need to turn in their Deathroot for the rewards, so here are all the rewards that the NPC Merchant Gurranq offers:

Overall, the rewards that players seem to find the most 'worth' from (when it comes to Deathroot rewards) seem to be the Clawmark Seal, Stone of Gurranq, Beastclaw Greathammer, and of course the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. In general, hunting down all the Deathroot can be a bit of a pain in Elden Ring, but the rewards and story implications more than make up for the time investment.
