Quick Links
The Convergence mod for Elden Ring is big – really big. In addition to the countless changes it makes to the game's progression systems, crafting systems, enemy variety, and equipment, there are also no less than 27 new classes in the Convergence Mod to try out.
Each new modded class Elden Ring players can try feels completely unique, and each starts in a different part of the world. Be sure to try out an assortment of these new classes before committing to a new Convergence playthrough; their vastly different origins and starting equipment from the base game's classes make for vastly different playthroughs in this massive mod.
Retainer
- "A loyal and stalwart knight, classically trained in the tradition of sword and shield."
- Primary Stats: STR and DEX
The Retainer is the Elden Ring Convergence Mod's version of a basic knight. Equipped with a basic sword and shield, and a suit of standard armor, you can't really go wrong with this traditional Souls archetype.
It's got a good array of stats that can help springboard into other builds, but sticking to melee is just as viable an option. The Retainer is one of the few classes that starts with a 100% Physical Damage resist shield, too.
Retainer Starting Location: Outside Coastal Cave, Limgrave
The Retainer starts closer to the actual beginning of Elden Ring than other classes, spawning right outside of the Coastal Cave beneath the cliffs south of the Church of Elleh. It's a good place to start for players who want the easiest Convergence Mod experience, as it practically mirrors the route players normally take in Elden Ring.
Vanguard
- "Always at the front lines, this knight was revered for his prowess on the battlefield."
- Primary Stats: STR and DEX
The Vanguard is like the Retainer, but without a shield – at least not at the start of Elden Ring's Convergence Mod. This warrior starts with a sword suitable for two-handing until they find a shield out in the world, but the Vanguard's armor set provides good defense until then.
Vanguards start a little bit more fragile than Retainers because of the inability to block 100% Physical Damage. But, with Jump and Heavy attacks, they can do a fair bit more damage.
Vanguard Starting Location: Above Stormgate, Limgrave
Vanguards start in a somewhat unique location that many players might not even know exists: the gate leading from the Gatefront Ruins to Stormhill has a second level. The Vanguard class starts within sight of the Giant who drops down, but it's best to leave the safe way rather than jumping down as well.
Marksman
- "This experienced hunter is an expert in all long-range weaponry."
- Primary Stats: STR and DEX
Elden Ring has had some pretty major updates to the way Bows and ranged physical combat feels, and the Convergence Mod makes it even more satisfying – and a viable, central part of builds. The Marksman class starts with a basic shield and weapon, a light armor set, and a set of arrows with a Bow.
The Marksman is one of the most fun classes to try out in the Convergence mod because of the variety of updates to Bow combat. But be warned – this class has one of the most dangerous starting locations.
Marksman Starting Location: South Mistwood, Limgrave
After passing through the shining fog door at the Chapel of Anticipation, Marksman characters will find themselves in Limgrave, specifically, in the Mistwood . Luckily they are placed on the southern end of it, near a clearing, so simply head further South to find a grace by the cliffs and avoid all the Rune Bears within these cursed woods.
Berserker
- Hailing from the North and wielding a
Greataxe , this warrior desires combat above all.
- Primary Stats: STR
The Berserker starts with an enormous Strength stat and a Greataxe, a weapon that can easily take players to the endgame if infused and upgraded correctly. Berserkers are great for players who want to get into melee combat and never leave the fray.
It's important to remember that Strength alone isn't enough to survive Elden Ring, though, and especially not the tougher challenges of the Convergence Mod. Invest in Vigor for more Health, and Endurance to be able to equip better armor without sacrificing I-Frames while dodging.
Berserker Starting Location: Stormhill, Limgrave
The Berserker begins in a place not far from the Retainer in Stormhill , the northern part of Limgrave. The Berserker starts a stone's throw from Bernahl's shack, and within sight of the field of Trolls that make for one of the best Rune Farms in Elden Ring.
Dreadnought
- "A warrior clad in heavy armor, standing as a lethal fortress against foes."
- Primary Stats: STR and END
The Dreadnought looks like a Paladin and plays like The Terminator, a class that makes up for its utter lack of magic and Faith-related skills with ridiculous melee combat stats. It starts with an incredibly defensive armor set, a Mace , and a shield.
Though it's difficult to build into spellcasting with a Dreadnought, players who to try a class that's about as defensive as can be without sacrificing damage should pick the Dreadnought.
Dreadnought Starting Location: Near Purified Ruins, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Dreadnought starts in the southeast of Liurnia near the border of Limgrave. Normally, the bridge here it out, and it takes a little bit of maneuvering to get through the gap between the zones. However, in the Convergence Mod, the bridge is repaired, giving Dreadnoughts an easy way to access Limgrave.
Sellsword
- "A capricious mercenary, displaying expertise in the use of double-bladed weaponry."
- Primary Stats: DEX
Sellswords are a good all-around pick, like the Vanguard and Retainer, whose start location lends itself to typical Elden Ring progression routes. They start with a Twinblade, a weapon with fast attacks that can take advantage of infused Status Effects.
The Sellsword is the only class that starts with a Twinblade , so players who want to try a Twinblade build in the Convergence Mod should go with this Dexterity-based class.
Sellsword Starting Location: Camp North of Lake Agheel, Limgrave
The Sellsword starts a little bit north of Lake Agheel in Limgrave, just to the northeast of the Gatefront Ruins in a new, small camp area. Head south to unlock another Site of Grace and progress towards Stormveil Castle (or head the other way for Castle Morne to level up).
Rogue
- "An assassin and master of tactical combat, this mercenary relies on agility and stealth."
- Primary Stats: DEX
The Rogue is the most traditional Dexterity-based class in the Convergence Mod, capable of wielding a variety of Dex-based weapons and Bows. They also start with a Buckler, which makes Parrying a little bit easier than with other shields.
The Rogue is a good pick for players who want to try something new in Elden Ring without delving into the new Spells of the Convergence Mod. There's a ton of updates to the way melee combat, in particular Bows, work in this mod, and the Rogue is a convenient way to see how different it can be.
Rogue Starting Location: Near Scenic Isle, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Rogue starts sort of in the middle of nowhere in Liurnia of the Lakes, near the Scenic Isle. Head south to find the cliffs that lead up to Stormveil, or explore the caves around Liurnia to level up and face Rennala nearby.
Glint Sorcerer
- "Trained at Raya Lucaria, this sorcerer is a student of Glintstone and Carian sorcery."
- Primary Stats: INT and MIND
The Glint Sorcerer, also called the Glintstone Sorcerer, is a traditional Sorcery-based class in the Convergence Mod. It starts with more spells than either the Astrologer or Prisoner in the base Elden Ring, complete with the Junior Scholar set normally only found via the Painting puzzles.
There are more than 100 new Spells Convergence Mod players can try out, and the Glintstone Sorcerer's magic-oriented stat distribution (and start location) makes it perfect for players who want to be a Mage.
Glint Sorcerer Starting Location: Academy Gate Town, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Glint Sorcerer class start location is not inside the Academy of Raya Lucaria, but just outside, in the Academy Gate Town. Perhaps, like Thopes, the player character simply stepped out and was locked away from their place of learning.
Starcaller
- "Obsessed with the otherworldly powers of the cosmos, this mage wields the forces of gravity."
- Primary Stats: INT and MIND
The Starcaller is a totally unique class to the Convergence mod as it starts with three powerful Gravity Sorcery spells. Though they look a bit creepy, Starcallers are one of the game's best starting classes for Sorceries because of the sheer power of Gravity magic.
Unlike other types of magic, Gravity magic is Physical and can stagger bosses and wreck armored enemies like the Crystalians.
Starcaller Starting Location: Weeping Peninsula, Limgrave
The Starcaller begins the game just outside the first location where most players meet an Onyx Lord : just north of Castle Morne, in a field emanating purple, Gravity Sorcery-like energies.
Underworld Mage
- "Born in the ruins of a fallen empire, this mage employs the frozen lightning of the Dragonkin."
- Primary Stats: INT and MIND
The Underworld Mage is another Sorcery-based class players can choose in the Convergence Mod, this time focused on the twisted Frozen Lightning of the underground Dragonkin.
This class doesn't really have much basis in the game's standard lore, but being the only class that starts underground in this Elden Ring mod, the Underworld Mage is a good choice for players who fell in love with the Siofra River.
Underworld Mage Starting Location: Siofra River, Beneath Liurnia
Indeed, the Underworld Mage does begin in the underworld – more specifically, a new area of the ruins that lead into the Siofra River. This is a dangerous area, and it's not a bad idea to quickly leave through the Mistwood elevator and explore more level-appropriate areas.
Volcanist
- "Once a noble of high birth, this scholar is now a devotee of the Volcano Manor."
- Primary Stats: INT, FAITH, and MIND
The Volcanist is one of the most flashy new classes in the Convergence mod. Themed after the Lava Sorceries of Praetor Rykard, the Volcanist starts with a Flame-based sword, the Gelmir staff, and Fire-based Sorceries on hand.
Choose the Volcanist if you don't mind starting in one of the game's most difficult areas, if it means getting access to an ability that leaves magma in your wake from the outset of Elden Ring.
Volcanist Starting Location: Caelem Ruins, Caelid
The Volcanist class starts near the Caelem Ruins in Caelid, on the road just south of a field full of terrifying T-Rex Dog abominations. It's a tough starting position, but it's not too far from the border of Limgrave for greener pastures.
Stormcaller
- "Using techniques lost long ago, this sage controls the power of the wind."
- Primary Stats: INT, FAITH, and STR
The Stormcaller is vaguely themed after the Storm Knights in Stormveil Castle, who wield Physical Damage-based Wind magic in their combat rotation. The Stormcaller starts with an extremely useful set of Sorceries that break through most resistances because of their Physical damage type.
Stormcallers also start with a decent set of armor compared to other Sorcerers, but they do have a little bit lower Magic-related stats like INT and FAITH compared to others, too.
Stormcaller Starting Location: Stormhill, Limgrave
Appropriately, the Stormcaller begins in Stormhill, just south of Stormveil Castle itself. There's a small wood that players can just about make out on the cliffs just below the castle on the map – head south then East to find the normal Elden Ring progression route.
Nox Oracle
- "Once a leader from the old empire, this mage seeks to revive the glory of the Nox."
- Primary Stats: INT, FAITH, and DEX
The Nox Oracle is a Night Magic-wielding sorcerer whose defining feature is attacks that enemies can't anticipate. Literally – when using Night Sorcery abilities, enemies will rarely, if ever, react.
Choose the Nox Oracle if you want to play a Sorcerer without the Glintstone flair, with the appearance of a Necromancer, that puts a few points in DEX every now and then.
Nox Oracle Starting Location: Sellia, Town of Sorcery, Caelid
The Nox Oracle start location is Sellia, Town of Sorcery, in the center of Caelid. Nox Oracle class characters are able to access more of their Night Sorcery spells in Sellia, but Caelid is a particularly difficult place to start in.
Necromancer
- "Advocate for those that live in death, this sorcerer calls spirits to their aid."
- Primary Stats: FAITH and INT
The Necromancer could be more accurately described as a follower of the Prince of Death, who offers respect to Those Who Live In Death and uses their power for their own ends. They don't summon permanent minions like a Diablo Necromancer, but they do rely on Death-based Sorceries and Incantations.
They start with the Death-Prince's staff, a powerful artifact that empowers their particular type of Sorceries. Though their starting Spells aren't much to write home about normally, Deathblight affects many more enemies in the Convergence Mod.
Necromancer Starting Location: Near Church of Pilgrimage, Limgrave
The Necromancer starts in Limgrave, just outside the Church of Pilgrimage that overlooks the first Wandering Mausoleum and the
Weeping Peninsula to the south. It's a good launching-off point for many different directions.
Frost Witch
- "A lost student of the witch
Renna, this sorcerer utilizes the power of frost."
- Primary Stats: INT, ARC, and MIND
The Frost Witch class starts, of course, with Cold-based Sorceries, which are just as powerful in this mod as they are in the base version of Elden Ring.
Frost Witches in the Convergence Mod will start with the coveted Snow Witch armor set, giving players the ability to look just like Ranni the Witch from the start of Elden Ring.
Frost Witch Starting Location: Below Caria Manor, Liurnia of the Lakes
Frost Witch characters start in a new tower that sits just below Caria Manor . Be sure to look around, and try to get to the top of this new tower for a nifty Numen Rune, worth a huge 12,500 Runes.
Aberrant Heretic
- "Guilty of unspeakable acts, this sorcerer was cast out of society for their crimes."
- Primary Stats: INT and ARC
The Aberrant Heretic is a class modeled after Elemer of the Briar, the boss in the Shaded Castle, who uses self-inflicting damage via Briar magic to attack. What they lack in defense, and survivability, they make up for in sheer damage output.
The Aberrant Heretic is the best class to pick for players who want to jump into the Convergence Mod with completely unique build, as it's hard to make this type of Sorcery work in the base game.
Aberrant Heretic Starting Location: Above the Carian Study Hall, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Aberrant Heretic starts in the Artist's Shack that overlooks the Carian Study Hall , on the eastern cliffs of
Liurnia of the Lakes .
Flame Prophet
- "Persecuted for apocalyptic visions, this priest now calls the power of the flame."
- Primary Stats: FAITH, and MIND
The Flame Prophet looks like a regular Prophet from the base game, and by all accounts this Convergence Mod class is essentially a souped-up version of that same playstyle. They start with more powerful abilities than just Catch Flame , though.
This class has easy access to some very powerful Spells, but it will take a little bit of hunting to get the ones worth using.
Flame Prophet Starting Location: Smouldering Church, Border of Limgrave and Caelid
The Flame Prophet starts at the Smouldering Church, on the border of Caelid and Limgrave's northeast. However, players shouldn't get too comfy after they spawn in, because Anastasia, Tarnished Eater will still invade just outside. Head to the start location for the Godskin Celebrant class for Black Flame spells to complement this class' regular Fire spells.
Fundamentalist
- "Defender of the Golden Order, this priest remains devoted to the Erdtree."
- Primary Stats: INT, FAITH, and MIND
The Fundamentalist class is modeled after the knights of Leyndell, specifically the ones that use Golden Order spells (not Ancient Dragon ones). This class is equally balanced between Intelligence and Faith, as all Fundamentalist abilities are.
This class' starting gear is fantastic, though its starting weapon might be a little lackluster compared to its impressive (and defensive) golden armor.
Fundamentalist Starting Location: Third Church of Marika, Limgrave
The Fundemantalist starts in the Third Church of Marika , in the east of Limgrave. Normally, players find the Flask of Wondrous Physick here, but in the Convergence Mod this will have been already acquired at the Chapel of Anticipation.
Bestial Devout
- "Wild and unkempt, this monk is capable of conjuring and manipulating stone."
- Primary Stats: FAITH and STR
The Bestial Devout is the only class to start with Bestial Incantations, which normally take players most of the game to acquire. This is because, normally, they are only gained by trading Deathroot to the Beast Clergyman.
Bestial Devout class characters will instead start with the Clawmark Seal and a set of Bestial Incantations that make them formidable in both PvP and PvE from the beginning.
Bestial Devout Starting Location: Groveside Cave, Limgrave
The Bestial Devout, despite being devoted to Beast Incantations, actually begins in the Groveside Cave , far from the Bestial Sanctum of the Dragonbarrow. Head outside to see the
Church of Elleh just down the hill.
Dragon Cultist
- "Once a knight of Leyndell, this cleric can call down the lightning of the ancients."
- Primary Stats: FAITH, and MIND
The Dragon Cultist is the ultimate practitioner of Ancient Dragon Incantations, capable of using some of the game's best Spells right from the start.
Their gear is great, their starting Straight Sword is surprisingly effective paired with a shield, and their mix of offensive and defensive abilities make them standout Incantation users in the Convergence Mod.
Dragon Cultist Starting Location: Overlooking Lake Agheel, Limgrave
The Dragon Cultist, appropriately, spawns near Lake Agheel, overlooking the rotted cultists still changing the Lake's namesake. This is the home of Flying Dragon Agheel, the first Dragon that most players run into in the game.
Godskin Celebrant
- "Lured by the power of black flame, this priest now searches for the Rune of Death."
- Primary Stats: INT, FAITH, and MIND
The Godskin Celebrant is arguably the Convergence Mod's most underrated class. Though it might not seem like everyone's cup of tea to start out as a dancing, murderous, Midsommar-like Crone, their starting Sorceries and weapon are too good to argue with.
The Godskin Celebrant is the only class that starts with Black Flame abilities, and in the Deathtouched Catacombs nearby, players can gain even more.
Godskin Celebrant Starting Location: Windmill Village at Deathtouched Catacombs, Limgrave
The Convergence Mod adds a new Windmill Village to Limgrave, just outside the Deathtouched Catacombs. There are a lot of other Celebrants here, and they can be a great source of early Runes before taking on Margit and Stormveil.
Frenzied Zealot
- "Consumed by destructive desires, this cleric now chases visions of yellow flame."
- Primary Stats: INT, FAITH, and MIND
The Frenzied Zealot starts with spells related to Madness buildup, including one particularly flashy Incantation that channels a maddening explosion right in front of the caster.
They start with the Frenzied Flame Seal, which boosts Frenzied Incantations, and new Frenzied Flame spells that are unique to the Convergence Mod.
Frenzied Zealot Starting Location: Ailing Village, Weeping Peninsula, Limgrave
The Ailing Village is a location in the Weeping Peninsula that is afflicted with the Flame of Frenzy. The Frenzied Zealot starts just outside this village, a good launching point for the rest of the Weeping Peninsula.
Blood Initiate
- "An inductee in the service of luminary Mohg, adept in the use of Bloodflame incantations."
- Primary Stats: ARC, FAITH, and MIND
The Blood Initiate lets players roleplay as Varre before they ever meet the iconic servant of Mohg. This class starts with new Formless Mother-related Incantations, and is mostly reliant on Arcane (like most Bleed builds) for these unique abilities.
The Blood Initiate even has an ability that lets them sap life from the Formless Mother to regain health. It's a macabre job, but someone's got to play the role War Surgeon.
Blood Initiate Starting Location: Rose Church, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Blood Initiate starts in the Rose Church, where players normally run into Varre for the second time after beating Stormveil. He won't appear here yet, not even for a fellow follower of Luminary Mohg.
Servant of Rot
- "A worshiper of the Sealed God and skilled in the powers of Rot and corruption."
- Primary Stats: ARC and FAITH
The Servant of Rot is a class that takes advantage of two major changes in the Convergence Mod: improved Scarlet Rot spells, and an overhauled Poison system. They start with a set suited for one of the Rotten followers of the Sealed God, including a handy Buckler for... repelling other Outer Gods, perhaps.
The Servant of Rot's starting spells revolve around proccing Status Effects, so it's not a bad idea to find a melee weapon that can fill in the gaps while these effects tick down over time.
Servant of Rot Starting Location: Church of the Plague, Caelid
The Servant of Rot begins in the Church of the Plague, one of the areas where players first come face-to-face with the effects of the Scarlet Rot. Because they start here, in the middle of the Swamp of Aeonia, players are able to begin the Millicent questline a little bit earlier than others.
Mystic
- "A human raised as an Ancestral Follower, trained to use spirit vapors and sleep."
- Primary Stats: ARC, INT, and FAITH
The Mystic is a class that many players asked for in the base game, or at least for abilities and items that were related to Sleep and the Ancestor Spirits. This class uses a mix of Soporific (Sleep-inducing) spells and is the only one to start with a Spirit Bell.
Because the game is in an Alpha stage, some bugs are to be expected: as it stands, some players may find that their Spirit Bell doesn't work as a Mystic. Travel to Roundtable Hold to purchase a second one from the Twin Maiden husks, which should work as normal.
Mystic Starting Location: Mausoleum Compound, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Mystic starts in the Mausoleum Compound of Liurnia of the Lakes, above the Uld Palace Ruins, and well above the Ainsel River. This class has access to Walking Mausoleums sooner than most because of this location.
Perfumer
- "Once a Perfumer of some renown prior to The Shattering, specializing in crafting."
- Primary Stats: ARC
The Perfumer is a class that has no particular favored playstyle, at least not in terms of traditional combat. The Perfumer instead focuses almost entirely on crafting, and starts with a huge number of crafted items that make up for its lack of good melee equipment.
The Perfumer is good for players who want to take a completely new approach to Elden Ring that isn't possible in the base game. Because the Convergence Mod unlocks all Recipes from the start, and Crafting Materials are picked up automatically, Perfumers can make new consumables on the fly with ease.
Perfumer Starting Location: Village of the Albinaurics, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Perfumer class starts in the Village of the Albinaurics, beneath the Moonlight Altar in southwest Liurnia of the Lakes. There's another Perfumer just up the hill – but don't just waltz up and say hi, as they'll still attack the player on sight.
Prisoner
- "A wretched prisoner locked in a dungeon. An inauspicious path."
The Prisoner is the Convergence Mod's version of a Deprived class, given practically nothing to start with, but with potential to grow more powerful than other classes. They start at Rune Level 1, with the lowest total stat distribution, but this means Prisoners don't waste any Level Ups on points they aren't going to use.
Prisoners face the ultimate challenge in the Convergence Mod in Elden Ring, as they only start with a basic club, and not much armor, and lots of catching up to do to reach the level that other classes start at.
Prisoner Starting Location: Gael Tunnel, Limgrave
The Prisoner starts in the Gael Tunnel, described in their class description as a dungeon specifically for them. Head to the left and up to find an entrance to Limgrave, far from most major points of interest, but close to the Smouldering Church and its Fire Prophet Incantations.
Elden Ring's Convergence Mod is available on PC only.
