Elden Ring is one of the biggest video game releases of both previous and current generation consoles. The most anticipated souls-like game to come from FromSoftware since the original release of Bloodborne, Elden Ring introduced a masterfully crafted story, a massive, detailed open world, and an array of lore for players to dive into as they progressed through the game. As a result, dozens of players have gone through hundreds of playthroughs and have discovered new details with every new game.

Since the game's release, players all over the world have patiently awaited the first big update after the game's release. This update arrives as the introduction of the Colosseum, an expansion of the game's PVP system that introduces more features, including 3v3 team combat. With this new addition, players will need to reevaluate what weapons they take into battle, as with the recent patch, the stats of weapons have changed. Here are some weapons to avoid when competing in Elden Ring's new Colosseum.

7 Ringed Finger

At first glance, the Ringed Finger may seem like a gimmick weapon with little use. While the design of the Ringed Finger is unique, it does have its advantages. However, while it may be a fun experience to take the Ringed Finger to Limgrave during early game and see how it fares against Godrick the Grafted, a trip to the Colosseum should be thought about with caution.

The Ringed Finger has its virtues, but when faced against players, it will not be able to provide an appropriate advantage in battle compared to other weapons. Slow attack speed and an unreliable weapon art are both reasons to leave this behind when stepping into Elden Ring's new content.

6 Giants Red Braid

Whips are a fun-to-use and surprisingly effective weapon class against most of Elden Ring's enemies. Being able to strike from a distance and afflict targets with grievous status ailments is an invaluable advantage in battle. Of the many whips available in the game, the Giants Red Braid stands among the top for its high damage and wide-range weapon art, Flame Dance.

While there may be some use to taking it into the Colosseum, players may find it hard to keep up with the chaos with so many threats on the screen. Standing still among a sea of vipers is not an adequate strategy.

5 Golden Halberd

Elden Ring Golden Halberd

The Golden Halberd is a faithful companion to many level one players in the early beginnings of the game who have the courage to take on the Tree Sentinel, walking the beginning of the path to Limgrave.

Its use is valuable when facing the routine squaller as a lowly tarnished while exploring the world Elden Ring has to offer, but the weapon falters as new and more challenging threats arise. As a member of the halberd class with holy weapon skill, players may find the challenge more than they could bare if taken into the Colosseum.

4 Bastard's Stars

Bastard's Star Remembrance Elden Ring

Weapons from the Void, or pulled from the slain bosses that appear in Elden Ring from another world, have their uses. The Bastard's Stars comes from the remembrance gained from defeating the Astel, Naturalborn of the Void.

As a member of the mace class, the Bastard's Stars has moderate attack speed but can deal above-average damage, especially when used in two hands, and its weapon art, Nebula. Unfortunately, the lengthy wind-up for Nebula paired with the already sluggish attack speed would not be a wise choice to take into the Colosseum.

3 Magma Wyrms Scalesword

While in the right hands, colossal weapons can be a significant threat to many players with their high damage and range. There are many weapons belonging to that class that will not serve well in the Colosseum update for Elden Ring.

One of those weapons is the Manga Wyrm Scalesword due to its weight, sluggish attack speed, and basic move set. Even the threat of an AOE weapon art that would make approaching the wielder dangerous does not warrant the use of this hefty piece of dragon skin.

2 Watchdog's Greatsword

The Watchdog's greatsword is a popular weapon in Elden Ring, similar to The Greatsword weapon and the Royal Greatsword. However, in its usefulness, the Watchdog's Greatsword does not measure up to its peers.

Having the basic greatsword move set and an underwhelming weapon art, the Watchdogs Greatsword would not provide great benefit in player vs. player battle with so many enemies to face. Even replacing the weapon art with something more useful would be a waste of simply choosing a better-performing option with more versatility.

1 Rivers Of Blood

Elden Ring Bloody Slash was a great stand-in for Rivers of Blood

The Rivers of Blood was the weapon of choice for nearly all of Elden Ring's content, especially its use in PVP duels for its fearsome range and devastating blood damage. There was no greater partner to lowly tarnished than the Rivers of Blood when facing off against tanky, high-vigor enemies or roll-heavy invaders. The River of Blood was a magnificent combination of damage, mobility, and range that could turn the tide of battle in the blink of an eye.

Most recently, the Corpse Piler skill received a notable nerf along with the weapons range and damage. While the nerf comes at a reasonable response as it was outperforming most weapons in its class and in the game altogether, falling from its former glory may warn players to leave it behind when stepping into the Colosseum.

Elden Ring is available on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox series X/S and PC
