An Elden Ring player's attempt to bully a boss ends in failure as the boss instead pulls off a clever trick that leads to the player's death. Elden Ring is a game that loves to rip the carpet out from under the player's feet, usually by a surprise like finding out Elden Ring's hardest boss Malenia has a second phase after hours of trying to take her down in the first one. There's nothing worse than getting so close to killing a boss, only for it to pull a surprise and use one move that makes everything fall apart. In this case, a boss managed to pull themselves out of a bullying attempt.
There are multiple boss arenas in Elden Ring, scattered across The Lands Between, called Evergaols, which hold specific bosses imprisoned within. These are usually optional challenges for the player to overcome and include bosses like the Crucible Knights. Of these bosses is one known as Alecto, Black Knife Ringleader, who killed Godwyn the Golden. Her boss fight is difficult due to her fast movements, aggressive nature, and ability to close the distance between her and the player with ease.
One player was trying to bully Alecto when she was given the chance to take the player out for good. Posting to r/Eldenring, user FalallucciD uploaded a video of them bullying Alecto. They are stun-locking her in a corner against the ledge of an arena, getting the chance to stagger her and do additional damage multiple times. It almost seems like the player has the victory well in hand when suddenly Alecto dodges out of the way of the attack after the player has to readjust so they don't fall off, and slashes at the player, forcing them off the ledge to their death, a common way to die in Elden Ring. In a recent Elden Ring survey about player deaths and how they die, it is reported that 14% of players die due to falling off a ledge.
In the comments, many of the users admonished the player for their reckless choice to bully the boss next to a ledge, a dangerous tactic that obviously didn't end well for the player. Alecto and her quick movements have proven to literally be the downfall of this player. While in some cases players can get an easy victory by getting enemies to fall right off of ledges, like when one player got a Crucible Knight to fly directly to their death, it can also work the other way around.
One must always be aware of their environment and any possibilities that may arise from it, especially in Elden Ring. While it might be fun to bully a boss like Malenia with a friend, there is no point where the situation can't drastically flip on the players, earning them a quick death. Always take care when going up against any foe, as a single surprise could spell doom, and overconfidence has led to the deaths of many.
