An Elden Ring player has found out that using a holy infusion on the Black Steel Greatshield gives it 100% holy damage negation, something that wasn't possible all this while in the game. This can be a huge gamechanger for a lot of boss battles, like the Elden Beast as well as the final boss in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, as holy damage has been quite frustrating to deal with for players.

Elden Ring has a plethora of shields, but it can be a bit confusing to choose the right one. In fact, a lot of Elden Ring players aren't aware of the fact that shields can be upgraded too. Upgrading shields makes them much more useful by reducing the stamina consumed on blocking. With the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, players have another really powerful shield mechanic they can utilize.

In a new post on the Elden Ring subreddit, user SpaceEvent reveals a little-known fact about a newly added shield in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Black Steel Greatshield can reach 100% holy damage negation when players infuse it. This means that it can cut off holy damage altogether, something that has been a cause of concern for many Elden Ring fans. One might recall the annoying holy attacks such as the Elden Stars, used by the Elden Beast in Elden Ring, and there is no dearth of it in the expansion as well.

In fact, the last boss of the expansion is infamous for extremely powerful holy attacks. The previous choice of players has been the Haligtree Crest Greatshield in Elden Ring, which gives 98.75 holy damage negation when fully upgraded. While that is quite effective too, players will definitely be using the Sacred Black Steel Greatshield more often now, especially with how unforgiving the last boss in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is.

How To Get Black Steel Greatshield

In order to get the Black Steel Greatshield, players will need to head to the Fog Rift Fort. This location can be reached from the Scadu Altus, West Site of Grace, which is located west of Castle Ensis. In the area, players can find Black Knight Garrew, an optional boss that drops 80,000 runes. The Black Steel Greatshield is a reward for defeating the boss. The Black Steel Greatshield needs to be upgraded to get the 100% holy damage negation in Elden Ring, so that is something players should keep in mind.
