Highlights

  • Swap out Talismans regularly for best results in Elden Ring - they serve specific purposes.
  • Discover Talismans like Gold Scarab and Silver Scarab for bonus runes and items.
  • Unlock powerful Talismans like Taker's Cameo and Crusade Insignia for exploration and combat.

There are many great Talismans in Elden Ring, but a number of them are fairly niche, either working best as part of a specific build or serving as good options versus certain bosses. As such, Tarnished will find that it's best to swap out Talismans regularly depending on the scenario.

Elden Ring: 10 Coolest-Looking Weapons In The Game, Ranked

Elden Ring is home to a plethora of remarkable weapons, but some outshine others because of how cool they look.

As players will spend a substantial part of the game exploring naturally, having a set of Talismans to aid this purpose is smart. For example, some Talismans help players acquire more Runes and items, while others keep Health Bars topped up while slaying hordes of enemies. Furthermore, with the introduction of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, there are plenty of new Talismans great for exploration.

1 Gold Scarab

Increases Runes Obtained From Defeated Enemies

Elden Ring Gold Scarab Talisman
  • Location: The Abandoned Cave in the Dragonbarrow region of Caelid

While exploring, players will want to earn as many Runes as possible so that they can level up for their next boss fight. The Gold Scarab Talisman, which increases the runes obtained from fallen enemies by 20%, is therefore not only the best Talisman for farming in Elden Ring but also a great option for exploration.

The downside to this Talisman is that it offers no bonuses to combat, so when entering a difficult area or facing a boss, it's usually best to unequip it in favor of something else. The Gold Scarab is dropped by the Cleanrot Knight bosses in the Abandoned Cave, which is found in the Dragonbarrow region of Caelid.

2 Silver Scarab

Raises Item Discovery

Elden Ring Silver Scarab Talisman
  • Location: On an invisible platform accessed from the Hidden Path to the Haligtree

Although it can only be found later in the game, the Silver Scarab is a great Talisman for exploration, as it raises Item Discovery by 75. This means that defeated enemies are more likely to drop items, and collecting loot is a key part of exploration in any open-world game.

To find the Silver Scarab, players will need to access the Hidden Path to the Haligtree, and then jump down to an invisible platform, just below a gap in the railing. The chest it's hidden in is behind an Illusory Wall. This is just one of Elden Ring's many secret locations.

3 Taker's Cameo

Restores HP Upon Defeating Enemies

Elden Ring Taker's Cameo Talisman
  • Location: Awarded at Volcano Manor after defeating Juno Hoslow

When exploring or making their way through a legacy dungeon, players will be fighting many foes, who while not as strong as bosses, can still cause problems, especially in high numbers. All apart from the most skilled will inevitably take lots of damage as they progress and will eventually run out of health potions.

Elden Ring: 6 Smallest Bosses In The Game

Not all bosses in Elden Ring need to be big to provide a challenge; some offer devastatingly hard battles despite their unintimidating size.

This is why the Taker's Cameo is easily one of Elden Ring's best Talismans for roaming, as every time an enemy is slain, the Tarnished will gain HP. No matter how small and easy the foes are, their deaths will heal the player, allowing them to stay healthy without the help of potions or spells. Taker's Cameo is a reward given by Tanith at Volcano Manor after the player invades and defeats Juno Hoslow on the Mountaintops of the Giants.

4 Crusade Insignia

Raises Attack Power After Defeating An Enemy

Elden Ring Crusade Insignia Talisman
  • Location: Dropped by the invader Fire Knight Queelign in the Belurat Tower Settlement
  • Only available with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Crusade Insignia is a new Talisman, available with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and it also happens to be perfect for exploring and farming. After killing an enemy, the Tarnished's Attack Power is raised by 15% for 15 seconds, and while this effect can't stack, it does reset with each kill, meaning that taking out groups of foes one by one has never been easier.

The Crusade Insignia is acquired by defeating the invader known as Fire Knight Queelign, but only if he is defeated at the Belurat Tower Settlement and not a later location such as the Church of Crusade.

5 Longtail Cat Talisman

Negates Non-Lethal Fall Damage

Elden Ring Longtail Cat Talisman
  • Location: Found by descending a lift just past the graveyard of the Raya Lucaria Academy

While there are plenty of open plains, there are also more treacherous areas in Elden Ring where a fall is likely to cost the Tarnished their life. In fact, some areas and loot can only be accessed if players treat the RPG as a platformer. For this reason, it's a good idea to equip the Longtail Cat Talisman when exploring these areas as it will negate any non-lethal fall damage.

The Lands Between is home to some gargantuan bosses, whose intimidating attacks are deadly to players.

Ironically, the Longtail Cat Talisman is found at the bottom of a ravine where some players may have fallen to their death. Thankfully, it can be safely accessed by descending a lift just beyond the graveyard of the Raya Lucaria Academy.

6 Ailment Talisman

Raises Resistance To The Last Ailment Suffered

Elden Ring Ailment Talisman
  • Location: On a corpse in the Abandoned Ailing Village, north of the Gravesite Plain
  • Only available with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

There are loads of great Talismans in Elden Ring which offer various specific resistances. Players will usually equip these for certain bosses or hard areas where they know which damage type they will encounter. However, while exploring, players don't know what to expect so having the Ailment Talisman to raise resistance against the last inflicted ailment is a great relief. This can prevent the buildup of one of Elden Ring's many status effects.

To find the Ailment Talisman, players will first need to find the Abandoned Ailing Village to the north of the Gravesite Plain. From here it can be found on a corpse by an incomplete bridge.
