The Convergence Mod entered its Alpha stage recently and boasts an insane number of changes to the base game of Elden Ring. It's meant for experienced players who have been through the Lands Between before, but it's as difficult as ever to choose the best starting class Elden Ring Convergence offers.

Of the whopping 27 new classes available in Convergence, Elden Ring players may find these ten options feel more unique, and offer more rewarding gameplay, than the other 17. The Convergence mod is really well balanced in general, and there aren't any truly terrible classes – but these ten are arguably the ones players should try first in the mod.

10 Prisoner

Elden Ring Convergence Mod All New Classes Prisoner

The Prisoner is essentially the same as the Wretch from the base version of Elden Ring, but with a little bit of a boost. This comes in the form of the Prisoner set, including the comical iron mask. This gives players a bit of extra defenses, compared to the regular Wretch.

Aside from that, though, players who choose to play the Prisoner aren't choosing this new Convergence Mod class for its power. Those who choose the path of the Prisoner face both a more difficult early-game experience and a more rewarding end-game experience, because they have more control over their Stat Point allocation starting from Rune Level 1.

9 Mystic

The Mystic takes advantage of the Sleep status effect, which is relatively rare in the regular game. In the Convergence Mod, Mystic characters start with a Spirit Calling Bell, allowing the use of Spirit Ashes from the start of the game, as well as a Sleep-inducing bow, Spells, and a decent Club of a weapon.

The Mystic lacks defenses, but the array of Ancestral Sorceries in the Convergence Mod for Elden Ring make up for that. After getting some new armor and defensive Sorceries, the Mystic class becomes one of the best Spellcaster-Melee hybrids in the mod.

8 Frenzied Zealot

The Frenzied Zealot is an Incantation-wielder that uses Madness-inducing spells, of which there are a ton of new options in the Convergence Mod. They start with the Frenzied Flame Seal, too, making their Frenzied Flame Incantations more powerful than they would otherwise be.

The Frenzied Zealot is a bit of a glass cannon, but Madness can be spread to more enemies in the Convergence Mod than the vanilla Elden Ring. Choose this class if you want to go for the Frenzied Flame ending and test out all the new Frenzied Flame spells in the Convergence Mod.

7 Frost Witch

Elden Ring Convergence Mod All New Classes Frost Witch

The Frost Witch gives players one of the most fashionable armor sets in Elden Ring right from the start: the Snow Witch set. It's practically the same as Ranni the Witch's armor set, but that's not the only reason to think this is one of the best new classes in Convergence.

Cold Sorceries are pretty good in the base game, but in the Convergence Mod, all Status Effects and spells, in general, got a huge boost. The Frost Witch can take advantage of the strengths of Cold magic to decimate enemies, and the armor set is both good-looking and provides decent defense.

6 Godskin Celebrant

Elden Ring Convergence Mod All New Classes Godskin Celebrant

Players run into a number of Godskin Celebrants in Dominula, the Windmill Village of the Altus Plateau. Dancing around their fires, these crazed worshippers of the Godskin Apostles and Nobles flay their way through foes using their Rune-generating melee weapon and a slew of Black Flame Incantations.

The Godskin Celebrant is arguably the best starting class for Incantations because of this. Black Flame spells sap a percentage of health for a few seconds after a hit, and are incredible against high-HP bosses.

Plus, they start right next to a dungeon containing even more Black Flame Incantations – the Convergence Mod packs spells into Faint Runes associated with spell types, and the next tier for the Godskin Celebrant's repertoire is just a stone's throw from their spawn location.

5 Vanguard

Elden Ring Convergence Mod All New Classes Retainer

Though there are plenty of other melee classes in the Convergence Mod that are worth playing (like the Rogue or Sellsword, which are DEX based), the Vanguard offers a good mix of offensive potential and defensives, especially after they find a Shield.

The class doesn't start with a shield, but its starting weapon is perfectly suited for Two-Handing, and the Vanguard armor set will do plenty to deflect deadly hits in the meantime. Learn to dodge roll effectively, and players can spend most of their effort on maximizing damage output rather than ducking behind a shield.

4 Starcaller

Elden Ring Convergence Mod All New Classes Starcaller

The Starcaller is an interesting spellcaster in the Convergence Mod because it starts with Gravity Sorceries, one of the most powerful types of spells in Elden Ring. Though most types of Spells in the game were buffed in the Convergence Mod, Gravity magic remains extremely powerful – and Starcallers can take advantage of it right from the start.

The benefit of Gravity magic is that the damage is physical, which breaks through magical resistances, staggers bosses, and shatters the hardened outer shells of armored enemies. Starcallers start just outside Castle Morne near an Onyx Lord open-world boss, which gives players a chance to test out their Gravity-based abilities on a tough foe from the get-go.

3 Volcanist

Elden Ring Convergence Mod All New Classes Volcanist

When it comes down to it, the best Sorcery class in the Convergence Mod is a subjective thing. What no-one can deny about the Volcanist, though, is how awesome it is to be able to spew pools of magma in one's wake from the very beginning of Elden Ring.

The Volcanist is a Sorcerer whose abilities are based on the Mt. Gelmir brand of Lava magic, though in the typical Convergence Mod way, there's tons more variety than the base game's options. Volcanists' Fire-type damage is very effective across a swathe of enemy types in Elden Ring, and their flashy spells make up for their relatively nuanced build options.

2 Stormcaller

Elden Ring Convergence Mod All New Classes Stormcaller

The Stormcaller is, like the Volcanist, one of the best Sorcery-based classes in the Convergence Mod. Of all classes Convergence players can try, the Stormcaller is both the most familiar and the most alien. There are very few Storm-based spells in the base game of Elden Ring, but here stands a starting class that not only wields the same winds that swirl Stormveil, but looks like one of its protectors, too.

The Stormcaller wields Physical damage-dealing Wind spells. Like Gravity magic, these spells are more effective against armored and magically-resistant enemies than regular Sorceries. The only reason the Stormcaller is ranked higher than the Starcaller is its uniqueness – and the fact that it doesn't start next to a boss, or in Caelid like the Volcanist.

1 Dreadnought

Elden Ring Convergence Mod All New Classes Dreadnought

Of all melee classes in the Convergence Mod, the Dreadnought is the most fearsome, and capable of the highest damage output. Boasting measly stats in Intelligence, Faith, and Mind, the Dreadnought is a melee Tank through and through. Paying no heed to the arcane arts leaves more room for Strength and Endurance, and what more does a Medieval Terminator need?

The Dreadnought starts with a very high-defense armor set, a mace with good Strength scaling, and a basic shield – all within the Medium weight limit. If you want to play a dextrous, fast character, look elsewhere – if you want to start the game with the highest Strength stat and the best setup to take advantage of that focus, choose the Dreadnought over the Vanguard, Berserker, or Retainer.

Elden Ring's Convergence Mod is available on PC only.
