Elden Ring fans have been sharing their favorite Messages written throughout the Lands Between, which are as clever and silly as ever. The beloved FromSoftware mechanic returned with Elden Ring in glorious fashion and players have not hesitated to lighten the mood with it.

Using a specific item, players are able to write Messages that leave a brief line of text which has the chance of appearing in another Tarnished's world, who are then able to read and react to it. Messages can be rated either Good or Bad, with the former granting the author an additional Flask of Crimson Tears use if they too are online. The catch, as well as part of what makes the system so compelling, is that players are limited as to what they can write, forced to construct phrases and sentences with predetermined templates, conjunctions, and words. Often thrust into harsh, unforgiving, and obscure worlds, Messages can be a source of levity for players in times of stress or even a helpful guide to something that would have otherwise been left undiscovered.

Started by MattyByNature with a Reddit thread that asked for everyone's favorite Messages, the community made sure to oblige. An attached image, captured by Fabrimuch, initiated the proceedings, which presented a player sat cross-legged on the edge of a Divine Tower. The associated Message explains why they went to the effort of hanging their backside off of the Tower, which reads "First off, crouching... and then Let there be dung" in a perfect encapsulation of the stilted yet endearing way the restrictions can manifest hilarious expressions.

One comment told about a Message that they found near Millicent that read "Visions of arms... Ah, but you don't have the right," an elegant allusion to the fact that the NPC is missing her right arm. Another pertained to the Crystal Snails found within caves and tunnels, describing them as "slug but with house," a Message that others said they were stealing.

The Mimic Tear boss fight has been a productive source of memes and hilarity since Tarnished first stepped foot in Nokron, and players are not slacking with Messages for it either. Right before the fog wall a Message allegedly read "Weak foe ahead, Therefore Time for introspection," in reference to the fact that the Mimic Tear is a relatively weak boss that copies the player's equipment.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
