Highlights

  • Curved Greatswords in Elden Ring have been significantly improved in patches, making them a potent weapon choice with unique features.
  • Some rare weapons, like Monk's Flameblade, may not be worth the effort due to poor performance despite their attractive appearance.
  • Players can find a variety of powerful Curved Greatswords in Elden Ring, each offering unique abilities and playstyles for different types of builds.

Curved Greatswords remained widely unpopular in the Elden Ring community for a long time. Not only did they weigh down players by a considerable amount, but their base attack rating also underperformed severely when compared to weapons in other classes. However, FromSoftware rolls out frequent patches to balance the game for the players, enhancing the speed, range, recovery time, and guard counter speed of all Curved Greatswords in Elden Ring.

Some weapons in Elden Ring are able to be tailored using the Sacred prefix, and these are some of the best sacred choices of weapons available.

These weapons deserve the spotlight for a change and players are rushing to include these weapons in their builds, which may startle foes at the Colosseum off-guard thanks to their unique move-set. There are not too many Curved Greatswords in the game, but almost every such weapon offers unique features that might attract players looking for a reliable and high-damaging weapon to run through the game again.

Updated June 21, 2024 by Vlad Mazanko: On the verge of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, refining one's Elden Ring build might be a good idea to venture into the mysterious Land of Shadow head-on.

Initially underappreciated, several balance updates later, Curved Greatswords have established themselves as one of the most potent weapon categories. Offering solid damage output, decent range, and often quite impressive Weapon Skills, this type of weapon shouldn't be overlooked by players anymore.

There are only a handful of weapons in FromSoftware games that look as attractive as the Monk's Flameblade but perform so poorly. This weapon does not have any valid perks that can provide players with any tactical or offensive advantage. It is the third-shortest weapon in the Curved Greatsword class and has a relatively low attack rating.

It also features an astoundingly low drop rate in Elden Ring, which is just four percent on 100 Discovery. This makes it a nuisance to farm for players who are not on a weapon-collecting spree. It can be obtained by farming Fire Monks near the Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave on the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Dismounter features the second-highest attack range among all Curved Greatswords and can be obtained relatively easily. It also has B scaling in Strength and Dexterity while it carries the "Quality" affinity, which is pretty good. However, it lacks severely in attack rating when compared to its peers. Aside from this sword's stylish and simple looks, it also has a rather surprising moveset. That said, its first heavy uncharged attack is almost as fast as a light attack and deals considerable damage.

If one's Tarnished prefers range to attack rating and is comfortable with the moveset, the Dismounter may be the ideal choice for early to mid-game. It can be farmed at the Kaiden camp, south of the Murkwater Coast grace, and infused with selected Ashes of Wars.

Players who are looking for a Mage build with points strategically invested into Strength can take full advantage of the Onyx Lord's Greatsword. It is imbued with gravity magic and its Ash of War, Onyx Lord's Repulsion Skill , releases a dome of gravity magic that tips enemies off their balance and deals massive damage.

Players looking to protect themselves from fire damage should consider obtaining these useful armor sets. Here's where to find them.

Taking on Gravity-type bosses like the Fallingstar Beast or Astel, Naturalborn of the Void grants this weapon an additional 20 percent damage increase. However, it lacks when it comes to overall attack rating. One can obtain this weapon in Elden Ring by defeating the Onyx Lord at the Sealed Tunnel, south of the Altus Plateau.

Building up the Frostbite status effect is the only effective use of the Zamor Curved Sword . It is by far the shortest Curved Greatsword which primarily scales with Dexterity, but only up to a B rating. However, FromSoftware tried to make up for its abysmal range by adding low stamina costs on the weapon's light attacks and a special chain AoE attack.

Its unique Ash of War, Zamor Ice Storm, summons an ice storm around the Tarnished and deals frost damage to foes caught in the area. Sadly, it also lacks when it comes to overall attack rating when compared to its peers. One can pick this up after accessing the Grand Lift of Rold, heading over to the Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave, and defeating the Ancient Hero of Zamor at the end of the dungeon.

The Beastman's Cleaver can baffle Strength builds with its sheer attack rating. Being the second shortest and heaviest Curved Greatsword in the lineup, its range is heavily compensated by an A scaling in Strength (if Heavy-infused). With such a huge size and weight, some players admit to using Beastman's Cleaver primarily for guarding (81 percent block rating), which can be more effective than most medium shields in Elden Ring.

The Beastman's Cleaver is easily obtainable by heading over to The Four Belfries and accessing the waygate. This teleports players to a disjointed portion of Crumbing Farum Azula, where two Azula Beastmen drop this weapon. However, if they have access to the primary Crumbing Farum Azula landscape, farming any Azula Beastman will do.

4 Omen Cleaver

Balance is the key strength of the Omen Cleaver , which features an intricate combination of range, speed, and attack power. Hence, it is a fair choice for players who are not following a niche playstyle. Distributing points into Strength and Dexterity equally is the ideal choice while using the Omen Cleaver. Its two-handed heavy attack often causes debates among players due to its very slow speed.

Fire damage is a useful tool in Elden Ring, and these weapons are the best ones for players who wish to use them.

It drops from the Omens who wield it in the vicinity of Altus Plateau. However, one can get this weapon from the Omen guarding Stormveil Castle near the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace. Another downside is that the Omen Cleaver, unfortunately, doesn't have a thrusting attack like it does when the Omens wield it in combat.

Faith and Strength users have a wide array of armaments to take advantage of and Magma Wyrm's Scalesword is one of them. Resembling its name, this Curved Greatsword is covered with scales and deals heavy physical as well as fire damage. However, the range on this armament tends to be on the shorter side when compared to its peers in Elden Ring.

Magma Guillotine, its unique Ash of War, covers the nearby area with magma after landing a jumping attack on foes. It can also be followed up by an attack that pulls the enemies into the magma pit, causing more passive damage. Magma Wyrm's Scalesword can be obtained by defeating Magma Wyrm Makar in Ruin-Strewn Precipice in northern Liurnia of the Lakes

2 Bloodhound's Fang

As an early-game weapon, the Bloodhound's Fang has gained massive popularity. Bloodhound's Finnese, its unique Ash of War, slashes foes and quickly creates space to avoid repercussions. It scales with Dexterity and Strength while having relatively low usability requirements. It can also be buffed with magic and consumables even though it's not infusible and has a native passive blood loss status effect.

While one can use it as the main armament throughout the game, it only scales up to a B rating in Dexterity. Hence there are far better alternatives as one progresses through the game. The Ash of War is particularly one of the best in PvP but lacks overall damage when it comes to PvE. To obtain this weapon, from the First Step Site of Grace, head southwards to Forlorn Hound Evergaol and defeat Bloodhound Knight Darriwil.

When it comes to demolishing enemies in style, Morgott's Cursed Sword is one of the best choices in Elden Ring. It features an eccentric design donned with Damascus-like patterns. It has passive hemorrhage perks and scales with Strength, Dexterity, and the effects of Arcane.

Its unique timing and area-of-effect confuse enemies in multiplayer and deal massive damage. It is the prime choice for the Curved Greatsword weapon class as Blood-loss is still overpowered in the game. Defeat Morgott, the Omen King, in Leyndell Royal Capital and exchange his remembrance with Enia to get a hold of this weapon.
