FromSoftware's track record has proven that the studio is able to put out hit game after hit game, with the developer on a near-spotless win streak of launching one critically-acclaimed title after the other for well over a decade now. Considering this, hype is understandably high for Elden Ring, an ambitious new game by FromSoftware that looks to take the Dark Souls formula and apply it to an open world format. Whether or not Elden Ring lives up to fans' lofty expectations remains to be seen, but it's clear that it's easily one of the most highly-anticipated games coming in 2022.

In fact, it's been pointed out that Elden Ring has already managed to win eight awards - and the game isn't even out yet. Twitter account EldenRingUpdate shared the news, highlighting some of the awards Elden Ring has won despite not releasing until next February. So far, Elden Ring has won two awards from The Game Awards, winning Most Anticipated Game in both 2020 and 2021. It also took home five awards from Gamescom 2021, including Best Sony PlayStation Game, Best PC Game, Best Action Adventure Game, Best Role Playing Game, and Best of Gamescom. And finally, Elden Ring won the Golden Joystick award for Most Wanted Game earlier this year.

Obviously, all of these awards are designed to be won by games that haven't released yet, but the fact that Elden Ring has already won eight such awards and has potential to win even more is impressive. It seems many were impressed by the playable Elden Ring closed network tests and are convinced that the game will be one of the biggest games of 2022.

FromSoftware being the developer of Elden Ring is enough for many fans to be excited for it, but there are other reasons why fans are looking forward to the open world action-RPG. It being a true open world game from FromSoftware is a big part of the game's hype, as are Elden Ring's expanded co-op options. Not to mention Elden Ring is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X, making it the first FromSoftware game to get a native release on the newest consoles.

All things considered, Elden Ring has a ton of momentum behind it and it will definitely be interesting to see if the developers manage to stick the landing. FromSoftware has consistently released high quality games, and so chances seem good that it will hit it out of the park yet again when the Elden Ring release date rolls around early next year.

Elden Ring launches February 25, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
