In Elden Ring, having No Skill is actually a good thing. That's not a statement on the game's difficulty – No Skill is the name of an extremely useful Ash of War. Ashes of War are items that let you customize the abilities of your weapons. A Shield normally starts with the Parry ability, but No Skill can be imbued on Shields to replace it, for example.

Elden Ring: How to Get Unlimited Smithing Stones 1 & 2

It is possible for players to buy an unlimited number of Smithing Stone [1] and [2] in Elden Ring, and this guide details how that is done.

Every armament in Elden Ring has an ability tied to it, but some are much less useful than others. Normally, a weapon ability can't be used if you have a shield equipped in the other hand, as the left trigger (or L2) will Parry instead of using the Ash of War skill for your main hand. With Ash Of War: No Skill, this changes.

Updated January 3rd, 2023 by Russ Boswell: The No Skill Ash of War in Elden Ring can be very useful for players who are looking to peel skills from certain items. It can be incredibly powerful with the right build and some players will want to find it right away. To better help players snag the No Skill Ash of War, the following guide has been updated and now includes a companion video.

No Skill Removes The Ability From Your Armament

Elden Ring No Skill Ash Of War Guide Inventory Item

Ash Of War: No Skill is one of the most useful Ashes of War because it nullifies the ability for the armament it is equipped on. This makes it so that when the player presses left trigger (or L2) with a Shield equipped, as long as that Shield has the No Skill Ash of War, you will use your main weapon's ability instead of your Shield's normal Parry.

This is an incredibly powerful Ash of War because it lets players keep a shield equipped without sacrificing the use of their custom weapon abilities. If you have two weapons equipped in either hand, having the No Skill Ash of War on the left-handed weapon defaults your Ash of War ability to your right-handed weapon (and vice-versa).

How To Get Ash Of War: No Skill

Elden Ring No Skill Ash Of War Guide Warhaster Hut Knight Bernahl

Ash of War: No Skill can be purchased from Knight Bernahl, an NPC merchant who sells Ashes of War in Limgrave. Head to the Gatefront Site of Lost Grace just before Stormveil Castle and head up the path northwest. You should come to a forested area after a short while, after getting past a few small hordes of soldier NPCs.

Once you get to this forested area start looking for the Guidance of Grace in the air. If you can't see the light rays, look for a shack surrounded by bright red flowers that can be seen from a distance. This is the Warmaster's Shack, and inside is Knight Bernahl. The Ash of War: No Skill costs 600 Runes to purchase, and there are lots of other options to buy here if you want to customize your primary weapon's Ash of War, too.
