Limgrave is the first location that you arrive in when playing Elden Ring, after leaving the Chapel of Anticipation. After activating the First Step Site of Lost Grace, you will find yourself surrounded by lush green grass, golden trees, bushes that provide many Elden Ring Crafting Materials, and of course the sight of the illustrious Erdtree far on the horizon.

10 Open-World Games With The Most Meaningful Content

These Open-World games are a great selection of games that ensure their worlds are filled with meaningful content that makes its world feel alive.

Although Limgrave does appear peaceful and full of innocent wildlife, it hides multiple sinister enemies that are lurking around, even for longtime Soulsborne veterans. Some bosses are hidden in plain sight, while others require a bit of exploring to reach. Defeating bosses rewards players with useful items that’ll surely help them in their Elden Ring journey.

Updated July 1st, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter: While Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC does add an absurd amount of new content be it bosses, hundreds of new weapons, new spells/incantations, and more, it doesn't add much to the 'base game'. All of the bosses you could find in the base game when Elden Ring first came out are still there, but now there's a whole new map you can access after beating both Radahn and Mohg that has a whole bunch of new bosses and content in it. This is all to say that Limgrave is exactly the same as it was when Elden Ring first launched. With that in mind, for all of you who are now going through this area again on new characters to reach the Lands of Shadow, here's every boss you can find in Limgrave.

All Limgrave Bosses

As Well as Their Location, Their Rewards, & a General Overview of Each One

limgrave bosses in elden ring

Limgrave can be divided into five sections; Stormveil Castle, Main Limgrave, Mistwood, Stormhill, and Weeping Peninsula. There are a total of 32 bosses scattered around its corners, and all of these bosses vary widely in their difficulty, rewards, and atmosphere.

Grafted Scion

Chapel of Anticipation

Elden Ring - Grafted Scion Walking Towards Tarnished

This Grafted Scion (Chapel of Anticipation) is located inside the Chapel of Anticipation, an area actually on a separate island just to the southwest of Stormveil Castle. The Scion is the tutorial boss that every player must face (or more likely, die at the hands of) before moving on to the 'real' game. The boss drops 3,200 Runes, Golden Beast Crest Shield, and Ornamental Straight Sword upon defeat. If, like most of us, one finds themselves unable to defeat the Grafted Scion, don't worry about needing to start a new save file to try it again or anything like that, you will have the opportunity to return to this area later on in the game through the Four Belfries.

Additionally, a Grafted Scion will appear as a standard elite enemy in Stormveil Castle, but it only rewards Runes. From that point on, the Scions do appear very rarely in certain locations, but never again as a boss.

The Soldier Of Godrick

The Stranged Graveyard's Cave of Knowledge

Elden Ring - Soldier Of Godrick Running At Tarnished

Rewards:

400 Runes

The Soldier of Godrick is the second boss that you'll encounter within the tutorial area in the Stranded Graveyard, and it functions as a way to test and see if you were paying attention to the tutorial and understand the basics of Elden Ring's combat.

That said, because it's just a basic soldier that you'll see hundreds, if not thousands of times throughout the game, it only rewards 400 Runes. after being defeated. It is by far the easiest boss in the game, and if players didn't walk through a fog gate to confront the Soldier of Godrick then it wouldn't even really count as a boss.

Margit, The Fell Omen

Stormveil Castle

Elden Ring - Margit The Fell Omen In His Intro Cutscene

Rewards:

12,000 Runes

Talisman Pouch

Margit, the Fell Omen , is the first "things just got real" boss of Elden Ring, as every great Soulslike game has, as he's a lot more aggressive than other bosses up to this point and there are a lot of moves to learn in order to survive. Killing him is required if you wish to open up the way to Stormveil Castle, though this absolutely isn't the last time the Tarnished will be seeing him. In any case, beating Margit rewards 12,000 Runes and a Talisman Pouch. Sure, you can completely circumvent Stormveil Castle and go around it to progress without killing Margit, but you'll find yourself without an extra Talisman slot if you do.

Godrick The Grafted

Stormveil Castle

Elden Ring - Godefrey In His Intro Cutscene

Godrick the Grafted is the first Shardbearer that you will likely encounter, and he's the main boss of Stormveil Castle. And, although Godrick the Grafted is crucial to the story as a Shardbearer, he’s actually an optional boss that can be skipped (like Margit) if you go around Stormveil Castle and cross the broken bridge instead.

Godrick, for all his monologuing and "worldbuilding" about being the lord of all that is golden, only drops 20,000 Runes, as well as Godrick's Great Rune, and the Remembrance of the Grafted, which can be used to create something called Legendary Armaments.

2x Erdtree Burial Watchdogs

The Stormfoot Catacombs & the Impaler Catacombs

Elden Ring - Both Burial Watchdogs Mid-Fight

Stormfoot Catacombs Watchdog Rewards:

1,300 Runes

Noble Sorcerer Ashes

Impaler's Catacombs Watchdog Rewards:

2,400 Runes

Demi-Human Ashes

Throughout the Lands Between there exist multiple Erdtree Burial Watchdogs guarding the numerous underground catacombs. In the western parts of Limgrave, just northwest of the Church of Elleh, the first Erdtree Burial Watchdog can be found at the end of Stormfoot Catacombs. While it moves very mechanically, you still shouldn't take this to mean the Watchdog is predictable, so approach it carefully. Once defeated, you will receive a meager 1,300 Runes and the Noble Sorcerer Ashes.

The second one is the boss of the Impaler's Catacombs, which are southeast of the Bridge of Sacrifice in the Weeping Peninsula. 2,400 Runes and the Demi-Human Ashes are given to you after beating this one.

Crucible Knight

Stormhill Evergaol

Elden Ring - Crucible Knight In Evergaol Up Close

Rewards:

2,100 Runes

Aspects of the Crucible: Tail

Most of the time when Crucible Knight are encountered they're just plain overly-aggressive elite enemies that are scattered around the world of Lands Between, similar to the Black Knights in the original Dark Souls.

Once defeated, the Tarnished will get 2,100 Runes and the Elden Ring Incantation, Aspects of the Crucible: Tail.

Beastman Of Farum Azula

Groveside Cave

Elden Ring - Beastman Farum Azula Approaching Tarnished

Rewards:

1,000 Runes

Flamedrake Talisman +1

The Beastman of Farum Azula (Limgrave) is located inside the Groveside Cave in the southwestern parts of Limgrave and is a perfect example of an enemy who is powerful enough to be a boss now, but is just a common enemy later as the Beastmen are the basic mobs of the late-game Farum Azula area.

The cave is rather easy, as expected since it’s an early-game area, and The Beastman of Farum Azula drops 1,000 Runes and the Flamedrake Talisman when defeated.

Bell-Bearing Hunter

Warmaster's Shack (At Night Only)

Elden Ring - Bell Bearing Hunter In Warmaster's Shack

Rewards:

2,700 Runes

Bone Peddler's Bell Bearing

The Bell Bearing Hunters can be found in various locations throughout the Lands Between, and they only appear at nighttime in locations that merchants and instructors commonly occupy during the day. One of them spawns at Warmaster’s Shack east of Stormhill Shack.

These are optional bosses and are difficult enough that it's understandable if you want to ignore them entirely, either way, be ready for a tough fight. But, if the you manage to overcome this Hunter you'll receive the Bone Peddler's Bell Bearing as well as 2,700 Runes.

2x Deathbirds

East of Warmaster's Shack & South of Callu Baptismal Church

Elden Ring - Both Deathbirds In Limgrave Mid-Combat

Stormhill Deathbird Rewards:

2,800 Runes

Blue-Feathered Branchsword Talisman

Weeping Peninsula Deathbird Rewards:

3,900 Runes

Sacrificial Axe

Like many Elden Ring bosses, the Deathbird (Weeping Peninsula) is a type of boss that appears multiple times. In fact, they're actually incredibly similar to the Bell-Bearing Hunters as both bosses only appear at night in specific locations. Two Deathbirds can be found in Limgrave; one in Stormhill east of Warmaster’s Shack, and another south of the Callu Baptismal Church in Weeping Peninsula.

The Stormhill Deathbird drops 2,800Runes and the Blue-Feathered BranchswordTalisman, while the Weeping Peninsula one drops 3,900 Runes and Sacrificial Axe.

Black Knife Assassin

The Deathtouched Catacombs

Elden Ring - Black Knife Assassin Staring Down Tarnished

Rewards:

1,800 Runes

Assassin's Crimson Dagger

The Black Knife Assassins are a well-known enemy in Elden Ring, as these are the same assassins responsible for the Night of Black Knives, an event in which Godwyn the Golden, a demi-god by all accounts, was slain. They appear in various regions, most of the time as optional bosses. And, one of them can be fought at the end of the Deathtouched Catacombs west of the Saintbridge Site of Lost Grace in Limgrave. Defeating the Black Knife Assassin rewards 1,600 Runes and the Elden Ring Talisman, Assassin's Crimson Dagger.

Guardian Golem

Highroad Cave

Elden Ring - Guardian Golem Before Waking Up

Rewards:

1,700 Runes

Blue Dancer Charm

The Guardian Golem is the final boss of the Highroad Cave in Elden Ring and is another boss you should quickly get used to fighting as they pop up pretty often as regular enemies later on. The cave itself can be reached by jumping down the bridge near the Saintbridge Site of Grace and heading north. Additionally, the Cave is an odd mini-dungeon full of Wolves, Giant Bats, and Giant Land Octopi.

Once defeated, you'll get the 1,700 Runes and the Blue Dancer CharmTalisman.

Tibia Mariner

Summonwater Village

Elden Ring - Tibia Mariner Using Summoning Attack

Rewards:

Deathroot

2,400 Runes

Skeletal Militiaman Ashes

The Tibia Mariner boss can be found near the borders of Caelid on the east side of Limgrave lurking inside Summonwater Village. Yet again, there are a fair number of Tibia Mariners spread across the Lands Between, so be sure to learn their attack patterns early. As one of Those Who Live in Death, the Tibia Mariner drops Deathroot when defeated, as well as 2,400 Runes, and the Skeletal Militiaman Ashes. The Elden Ring Deathroot triggers the NPC named 'D', Hunter of the Dead’s questline which leads to the Beast Clergyman and almost all of the Beastial Incantations.

Grave Warden Duelist

Murkwater Catacombs

Elden Ring - Grave Warden Duelist About To Attack Tarnished

Rewards:

1,700 Runes

Banished Knight Engvall Ashes

Inside the Murkwater Catacombs, which are north of the Murkwater Coast Site of Grace in Limgrave, there’s a boss that goes by the name Grave Warden Duelist. The Grave Warden Duelists are a variation of the Duelist enemies found in other locations in Elden Ring such as near the Colosseum in Leyndell.

These Duelists, in particular, were exiled from the Colosseum and forced into watching over their assigned catacomb, but you should get ready to see this enemy type again after this boss fight. Defeating the Warden grants 1,700 Runes and the Banished Knight Engvall Ashes.

Patches

Murkwater Cave

Elden Ring - Patches Mid Boss Fight

Grovel for Mercy Gesture

Access to Patches' Merchant Wares

N/A

Rewards If Killed:

Golden Rune (1) x2

Leather Armor, Gloves, & Boots

Spear +7

800 Runes

Patches is a well-known NPC that has appeared in just about all of the Souls games and even some other From Software titles. However, in Elden Ring, Patches can (optionally) be fought as a boss inside the Murkwater Cave, south of the Murkwater Coast Site of Grace. If you spare him, you'll get twoGolden Runes (1), the Grovel for Mercy Gesture, and Patches will then become a merchant that you can buy items from. On the other hand, if Patches is killed, the rewards are:

  • 800 Runes
  • Spear +7
  • Leather Armor
  • Leather Gloves
  • Leather Boots
  • Golden Runes (1) x 2

1,800 Runes

Roar Medallion Talisman

The Stonedigger Troll (Limgrave Tunnels) can be found at the very bottom of Limgrave Tunnels, northeast of the Church of Elleh. Flying Dragon Agheel

Dragon-Burnt Ruins

Elden Ring - Flying Dragon Agheeel Landing Animation

Rewards:

5,000 Runes

Dragon Heart

Flying Dragon Agheel is quite intimidating if you're early on in Elden Ring and only have weak equipment, as this is the first of many gigantic dragons they'll encounter. The boss will appear north of the Dragon-Burnt Ruins, dropping down onto the Ruins area after raining deadly dragonfire down from above.

If you manage to kill this dragon, 5,000 Runes and one Dragon Heart are given to you. This heart can then be taken to the Church of Dragon Communion to start obtaining Dragon Incantations, found by going through the Coastal Cave, and both locations are also part of Limgrave.

The Tree Sentinel

Church of Elleh

Elden Ring - Sneaking Up On Tree Sentinel

Rewards:

3,200 Runes

Golden Halberd

The Tree Sentinel is probably one of the most iconic bosses in Elden Ring, primarily because it can be fought right after leaving the Chapel of Anticipation, though this is incredibly difficult to do without leveling up the Tarnished and their gear first. It can be seen walking back and forth near the Church of Elleh’s entrance.

Defeating it grants the Golden Halberd as well as 3,200 Runes. Be ready to fight more Tree Sentinels across Elden Ring, sometimes even multiple of them at once.

Demi-Human Chief

Coastal Cave

Elden Ring - Demi Human Chief Apporaching Tarnished

Rewards:

1,200 Runes

Tailoring Tools

Sewing Needle

Elden Ring - Ulcerated Tree Spirit Up-Close

Rewards:

15,000 Runes

Golden Seed

Banished Knight Oleg Ashes

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit is the main boss of the Fringefolk Hero's Grave, which is an incredibly difficult challenge dungeon that unlocks by using two Stonesword Keys at the Fog Gate just before the exit that leads to The First Step Site of Grace.

If the Tarnished manages to make it here after all the Chariots, Imps, and Phantoms, they'll have to beat this gigantic, powerful, and frankly patience-testing Tree Spirit which drops 15,000 Runes, Golden Seed, and Banished Knight Oleg Ashes.

Mad Pumpkin Head

Waypoint Ruins

battle with mad pumpkin head elden ring

Rewards:

1,100 Runes

The Mad Pumpkin Head boss can be found guarding the NPC, Sorceress Sellen, inside Waypoint Ruins to the north of the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace.

These maddened ex-gladiators can be found all over the Lands Between, usually minding their own business until the Tarnished interrupts. Beating it is quite easy with proper spacing and it drops 1,100 Runes afterward.

Elden Ring - Both Night's Calvary In Limgrave Mid-Combat

Agheel Lake Calvary Rewards:

2,400 Runes

N/A

Castle Morne Rampart Calvary Rewards:

3,400 Runes

Ash of War: Barricade Shield

Nightrider Flail

As the name suggests, the Night’s Cavalry is a dark boss that can be seen only at night. As part of a Calvary, they're also found at multiple spots on the map. There are two in Limgrave, one near the Agheel Lake North Grace and one near the Castle Morne Rampart Grace.

The one found in Agheel Lake North drops 2,400 Runes and the Ash of War: Repeating Thrust when beaten while the other drops 3,400 Runes, the Ash of War: Barricade Shield, and Nightrider Flail. The Night's Calvary are soldiers under Margit's command who used to roam the Lands Between and grant glorious death to great soldiers and warriors. The game seems to incentivize you to fight these guys while riding Torrent, but they can also be fought on foot and you can even knock them off their own horses if through Stance Break.

Bloodhound Knight Darriwil

Forlorn Hound Evergaol

Elden Ring - Bloodhound Knight Being Stabbed By Tarnished

Rewards:

1,900 Runes

Bloodhound's Fang

South of the Agheel South Lake, there is the Forlorn Hound Evergaol which has Bloodhound Knight Darriwil as its boss, trapped there for eternity for his betrayal. Runebear

Earthbore Cave

Elden Ring - Runebear Looking At Rolling Tarnished

Rewards:

2,600 Runes

Spelldrake Talisman

The Runebear lies dormant inside the Earthbore Cave, west of Forest Lookout Tower in Weeping Peninsula. It's a gigantic bear that can easily overwhelm anyone who isn't used to such aggressive (almost too aggressive) enemies.

Defeating it grants 2,600 Runes and the Spelldrake Talisman. But, be warned, this isn't the last appearance of the Runebear, as there is even a forest full of them later on called the Mistwood and now an even scarier one you can find in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Cemetery Shade

Tombsward Catacombs

Elden Ring - Cemetary Shade Having Pot Thrown At It

Rewards:

2,200 Runes

Lhutel the Headless Ashes

The Cemetery Shade is located inside the Tombsward Catacombs as its boss, south of the Church of Pilgrimage in the Weeping Peninsula. Killing the Cemetery Shade, which should be easy given how low its overall health is and how simple its attack patterns are, awards 2,200 Runes and Lhutel the Headless Spirit Ashes, which is by far one of the better Spirit Ashes for the Tarnished to use in the entire game.

Scaly Misbegotten

Morne Tunnel

Elden Ring - Scaly Misbegotten Walking Towards Tarnished

Rewards:

2,000 Runes

Rusted Anchor

Scaly Misbegotten is an optional boss inside Morne Tunnel. The tunnel’s entrance is west of the Callu Baptismal Church. Again, this is just a tougher version of a regular enemy, the Misbegotten enemy in particular. And, when it's defeated, The Scaly Misbegotten drops 2,000 Runes and the Rusted Anchor Greataxe.

Erdtree Avatar

Weeping Peninsula's Minor Erdtree

Elden Ring - Erdtree Avatar After Butt Slam

Anyone familiar with the Souls series will likely recognize how similar it is in both appearance and moveset to the Asylum Demon, and you can follow the same general strategy for killing it. Once beaten, it drops 3,600 Runes, the Opaline Bubbletear , and the Crimsonburst Crystal Tearfor the Flask of Wondrous Physick.

Ancient Hero Of Zamor

Weeping Evergaol

Elden Ring - Ancient Zamor Warrior Close Up

5,400 Runes

Radagon's Scarseal

The Ancient Hero of Zamor is trapped inside the Weeping Evergaol, southwest of the Tombsward Ruins, and is an introduction to the Knights of Zamor that will be appearing much later in the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Defeating this boss rewards 5,400 Runes and the Radagon's Scarseal Talisman.

Miranda The Blighted Bloom

Tombsward Cave

Elden Ring - Miranda The Blighted Bloom Mid-Battle

Rewards:

2,100 Runes

Viridian Amber Medallion

Miranda the Blighted Bloom is a plant-like boss that’s found inside the Tombsward Cave, southeast of the Fourth Church of Marika.

This is the boss variation of the Giant Miranda Sprout enemies that appear often in the Lands Between, though it's said that this one is the first of its kind. Upon beating it, the Tarnished gets 2,100 Runes and the Viridian Amber Medallion Talisman. This Talisman is a huge help for stamina-heavy builds, and can even be useful in Intelligence-based ones as well.

Leonine Misbegotten

Castle Morne

Elden Ring - Leonine Misbegotten Roaring

Rewards:

3,800 Runes

Grafted Blade Greatsword

The Leonine Misbegotten is the boss you will find at the end of your exploration of Castle Morne, and its arena is found at the 'Beside the Rampart Gaol' Site of Lost Grace in Weeping Peninsula. As you're probably accustomed to by now, you'll, of course, be fighting this enemy type often as the Misbegotten Warrior standard enemy, there's even a boss battle against a Misbegotten Warrior and a Crucible Knight at the same time in Caelid.

When the Tarnished beats this one, they'll get the Grafted Blade Greatsword and 3,800 Runes.
