When Elden Ring players get through Raya Lucaria Academy in Liurnia of the Lakes, they will face off against a demigod boss called Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Once the witch is taken care of, players will receive some items as a reward. These items are: 40K Runes, Remembrance of the Full Moon Queen, and Great Rune of the Unborn. For Elden Ring players that aren't sure how to use the Great Rune of the Unborn, this guide will explain what it's for.

Unlike other Runes in Elden Ring, the Great Rune of the Unborn doesn't need to be activated, as it doesn't provide a stat boost or anything like that. By using this Rune that drops from Rennala, players will finally be able to Respec their Elden Ring character, which means starting from scratch in the stats department to create an entirely different character build.

How to Use Great Rune of the Unborn to Respec

After defeating Rennala in the Grand Library, she will appear there, and players can speak to her (don't worry --she's not a threat anymore). If players have the Rune in their inventory, they'll have the option to mess around with the Rebirth menu. Players can only do this if they have a Larval Tear on them, which can be pretty rare to find in Elden Ring's open-world.

Players can spend the tears to clear their levels in the Rebirth menu and reassign them from square one. This will essentially bring players' stats back to their starting point of the class they chose at the beginning of Elden Ring. All of the stat levels will need to be reassigned until they reach players' current level.

This is a useful way to change the character's build if players are unhappy with their current stats or want to use a certain weapon. For example, if a player's Strength stats are really high, but their Faith is low, they can allocate points so that Faith ends up being high, Strength goes down, and vice versa.

Since a Larval Tear is needed each time players choose to Respec their character, try not to perform the action unless they really need to. There are about a dozen Larval Tears or so scattered about the world, though, so there's no need to hoard them all.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
