It is normal for most games these days to release a day-one patch for its release, as it allows the developers to ensure everything is as smooth as it can be on launch day, even after the title has gone gold. Some games, however, get more than one update before release, and it seems as if Elden Ring is one of those games. FromSoftware's next big hit got one update seemingly before or during Elden Ring's review process and is now set to receive another update mere hours from the game's launch.

In a news post on Bandai Namco's website, the publisher has laid out all the details regarding Elden Ring's second patch and says that it's important that this patch be applied before playing the game as it will make a number of quality-of-life enhancements for players. Bandai Namco also notes that the update will ultimately "improve the stability of the gameplay."

Here are the full patch notes below:

  • Improved controls
  • Balance adjustments
  • Text adjustments
  • Fixes for NPC events
  • Fixed frame rate drops under certain conditions
  • Text bug fixes in some languages
  • Fix for a bug that prevented the Xbox Wireless Headset from being used
  • Addition and adjustment of BGM

It is important to note that this patch is only available for the PlayStation and Xbox versions of Elden Ring as there is no word yet on a patch for PC players. Bandai Namco has reiterated that this patch should be applied first thing, and it urges players to manually check for updates prior to booting up the game. The publisher has also mentioned to apply the patch to the Digital Art Book and Soundtrack included in the Digital Deluxe Edition of Elden Ring.

Over the past day, Elden Ring has been receiving almost unanimous praise among critics as the game has become one of the most best-reviewed games of all time. The game currently sits at a 97 on Metacritic, putting it among masterpieces such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Despite having some frame rate issues for early players, it seems Elden Ring is destined to forever sit among the all-time greats in the medium.

Tomorrow, Elden Ring will release worldwide and anxious fans will finally be let loose in The Lands Between. This 1.02 patch will be an important one to have downloaded, as most next-gen console owners will likely be wanting that smooth 60fps frame rate to be locked and loaded when they boot up the Elden Ring title screen.

Elden Ring releases February 25 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
