Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising has a lot going for it. Its art style is fantastic. It's not a Square Enix game, but it is close to achieving that HD-2D look that they helped create a few years ago. The battle system is simple for an action RPG but satisfying at the same time.

Those are the positives noted in most reviews. However, the game is sitting around the 60s and 70s depending on what platform is chosen. There are some things the developer behind Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising could add or fix to make the game better with some future patches. Adding in a demo for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes would be one thing, but that is a huge wish. These other suggestions are more realistic.

7 Add Voices

The story is not a big part of Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. The action RPG gameplay is king in this adventure. It’s about CJ, a treasure hunter who is trying to make a name for herself. She’s not trying to save the world, but she is trying to restore the town she happens upon though. There are some later plot details about an ancient civilization, but it is not too important.

Even though the story is not the best part of the game, players might be more engaged if there were voices added in. That would presumably take a lot of effort and probably won’t happen through a patch.

6 More Save Options

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising offers up three save slots for players to use interchangeably. Three seems to be the go-to for a lot of games. That’s why it is amazing to see other RPGs with infinite save slots or at least an amount in the double digits. Ten would be an improvement for Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising at the very least.

The developer could also tweak the autosave functionality, which is not great right now. It would be nice if there was an option in the menu to make autosaves more or less frequent.

5 Fast Traveling To Specific Shops

When in town, players can warp to any district as long as it gets unlocked. Even if the game says the area is unlocked, players still need to step foot in it once. Fast travel is essential in a big RPG like this, so the mechanic is much appreciated.

Players are going to do a lot of backtracking in Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising because the mission system is based on fetch quests. One shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth, but some players might like more functionality within this fast travel system. For example, being able to warp to specific shops would be helpful too.

4 Exit Dungeons Freely

Players can fast travel when they are in a dungeon as well, but it is more limited. There are signposts placed strategically in a dungeon. Players can usually find one halfway through and then another right before the boss. While there are exceptions, this is the general setup.

Players can fast travel between signposts and also save their games. There is also no menu item to exit the dungeon, so players have to rely on signposts. Although not a huge problem, it would be nice if players didn’t need an item or signpost to run away in a hurry. RPGs usually have some sort of system like this.

3 Add Challenge Levels

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising fairs on the easier side of RPGs. As long as players keep up with quests, they shouldn’t have much of a problem. There are no difficulty levels in the game or assist options. This means there is no way to crank up the difficulty. Not everyone likes their RPGs to be a cakewalk.

Adding in difficulties seems like the easiest thing to put into a patch. If the developer is feeling more adventurous, they could also add in some assist features like a way to increase how much damage monsters do.

2 Quest Upgrades

There are a couple of things about quests that could be tweaked. First, only one side quest can be tracked at a time alongside the main quest. An infinite number of quests can be accepted at one time, but players have to go into the menu to adjust what they want to see on their HUD.

The developer should allow more side quests to be tracked at any given time as it would help greatly with backtracking. Side quest areas appear on the mini-map with exclamation points. Players could see different potential routes all at once. It’s also weird that quests can’t be accepted on the bulletin board. That goes against most RPG setups.

1 Clear The HUD

Being able to see more quests in the HUD might be helpful to some players. For others, they may want to clear the HUD altogether. There is no way to do that in Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. Generally, games, especially action RPGs, allow players to customize what they can and can’t see in the HUD.

The most distracting thing on the HUD is the stamp collection. It’s a huge box that is taking up a large portion of the screen. It is a bit ridiculous especially since this game is a looker. The less clutter the HUD has, the more beauty players can take in.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising was released on May 10, 2022 and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
