The following contains spoilers for Episode 6 of Edens Zero Season 2, "Our Future" now streaming on Crunchyroll.Being the deuteragonist of the series, the significance of Rebecca Bluegarden’s role in Edens Zero was never a point of content, with several hints pointing towards a latent power that would far exceed the others. With season 2’s latest episode now airing, Rebecca’s significance in the series has been cemented with the reveal of her Ether Gear’s true power.

From lacking an Ether Gear altogether to gaining a world-breaking power, Rebecca is brimming with potential waiting to be unlocked. Her Ether Gear 'Cat Leaper' was initially assumed to be a speed-boost of sorts, providing unprecedented agility and speed for a few seconds. However, this reveal reframes Cat Leaper as something much more than a simple increase in mobility, turning into a mind-bending ability that can change the laws of the cosmos.

Cat Leaper’s True Potential

Cat Leaper's True Power

With Rebecca recently awakening her Ether Gear, much of her powers and abilities remain unknown to her. The only powers of Cat Leaper that she was aware of were the ones that she suddenly awoke under moments of intense distress and helplessness, such as the speed boost on planet Sun Jewel. Following a similar premise, Rebecca unlocked Cat Leaper’s true power under intense emotional trauma, with feelings of despair from Shiki’s death being the main driving force.

Contrary to what was previously believed, Cat Leaper is a time leaping ability, granting the user the power to send their consciousness back in time to a previous date. The ability can be compared to time-eating chronophages as the concept is somewhat similar, although without the loss of memories. Moreover, only Rebecca remains aware of the shift in time, meaning there is no way for any other person to discern that time has been reversed.

From the one instance of Cat Leaper’s use, a few aspects of this Ether Gear can be discerned. Firstly, Leaper’s activation is highly inconsistent, though that can be attributed to Rebecca’s lack of mastery over her Ether Gear. Secondly, the ability’s usage results in physical changes to the user’s body, with cat-like ears and a tail appearing on Rebecca’s body right before Leaper’s activation.

Cat Leaper's Value

Rebecca's Leaper Legs

Described as “the power of possibility” and a forbidden power that can change the cosmos, it comes as no surprise that this power has several contenders after it. With information being the strongest power, Leaper becomes a coveted power that can empower anyone that can get their hands on it. Currently, Drakken Joe and Master Noah are the only two antagonists aware of Rebecca’s true power, with Drakken gunning for a way to capture her and extract this power.

Bearing the power of time is akin to becoming a godlike being, a coveted title that most would naturally desire. With Leaper’s jump in value, Rebecca becomes the centerpiece to the puzzle as Drakken Joe’s current goal is to capture her by any means possible. Seeing that he was willing to kill Shiki and cut off Wiesz’s arm in the future, it’s quite evident that he will stop at nothing to gain the power of Leaper.

With Rebecca aware of the events of the future in the current timeline, it’s likely that the Edens Zero crew might be able to avoid the horrid state of affairs their future selves experienced. Though a possibility of Rebecca utilizing time leap multiple times before actually being able to outsmart Drakken Joe is also plausible, especially considering his overwhelming power and unrivaled Ether Gear.

The Possibility of an Alternate Timeline

Shiki's Death in Edens Zero

While Cat Leaper has revealed to simply be a sort of time rewinding ability, the series has clearly hinted at Leaper’s time leap resulting in the formation of alternate timelines. This is evident from Drakken Joe referring to Rebecca as No.29 instead of her actual name. The reasoning behind this odd title was never explained, though the series offers a bit more clarity after Drakken refers to Rebecca as No.30 after she uses the time leap ability.

It’s highly plausible that the number Drakken is referring to is the current timeline, with 28 previous timelines existing where he failed to capture Rebecca. This concept is further cemented by Rebecca’s premonition about similar events before embarking on a journey to Belial Gore, though she shrugged off the events as nothing more than a dream.

This indicates that Drakken Joe has already attempted to steal Cat Leaper 28 times, with this being the 30th alternate world. However, the series is yet to explain how Drakken is able to keep track of the alternate worlds, especially since only Rebecca has the ability to retain her memories after using time leap. While the series is yet to confirm this plausibility, the events of the latest episode do heavily imply the existence of alternate worlds, making Edens Zero’s premise all the more intricate and complex.
