Ed Boon is no stranger to trolling players on social media, though his latest posts about Mortal Kombat 1 challenges readers to decide if there's any truth to them or if it is just more of him being a troll. Boon has been spending the better part of 2023 posting about what NetherRealm has in store for the latest Mortal Kombat game, who may be appearing, and even the future of Injustice. With the latest game serving as the second reboot in franchise history, one of its creators uses content and concepts from across its roughly 30-year history to challenge curious players.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to serve as the series' second reboot, following 2011's Mortal Kombat, and will pick up in the new timeline crafted by Fire God Liu Kang at the end of Mortal Kombat 11. While many series veterans are set to return, the new era has resulted in some drastic changes to said characters, such as Scorpion and Sub-Zero now being brothers. The game will also see the introduction of Kameo fighters players can select before a match to provide assistance during a match, whether it be adding to a combo attack or performing their own fatalities.

Given the relatively short period between the game's reveal in May 2023 and its scheduled September 2023 release, players have already gotten a look at some of the bigger features Mortal Kombat 1 will have including Kameo fighters, the new story mode, and gameplay additions like air combos. It appears there is plenty more NetherRealm is still keeping under wraps, as of this writing, and Boon decided to use this in a new Twitter game dubbed "Truth or Troll." The social media game saw Boon pose ten questions about what could be part of Mortal Kombat 1 when it releases and to decide whether he is telling the truth or trolling.

Boon isn't shy about pulling from some of the deeper parts of Mortal Kombat's history, such as asking if Shujinko will be a Kameo fighter or if Puzzle Kombat from Mortal Kombat: Deception will be a mode in Mortal Kombat 1. Some questions play on fan-favorite features players have been wanting to see brought back, most notably Animalities from Mortal Kombat 3. The response, in turn, varied widely depending on the question, from a difference of only 2% to proverbial landslides.

Online interactions like these are normal for Boon, who often uses social media to troll players asking about NetherRealm's upcoming titles. The irony in this case, though, is there is a legitimate chance all the ideas in "Truth or Troll" could end up in Mortal Kombat 1 at release. That said, players will need to wait until they get their hands on the fighting game to see if any of these ideas make the final cut or were never real to begin with.

Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to release September 19, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
