A recent update for survival game Stranded Deep is giving some PlayStation gamers a free Platinum trophy. Sony's version of the achievement system puts a unique spin on things by categorizing achievements as Bronze, Silver, and Gold trophies. Earning all the Bronze, Silver, and Gold trophies in any given game unlocks its Platinum trophy, indicating 100% completion.
By their very nature, Platinum trophies are typically challenging and time-consuming. Most Platinum trophies take a great deal of effort and commitment to unlock. Of course, there are some PlayStation games with relatively easy Platinum trophies as well. However, even the easiest Platinum trophies on PlayStation usually require some effort on the part of the player. The same can't be said for Stranded Deep thanks to a new bug that's made its Platinum trophy incredibly easy to unlock.
It's been discovered that Stranded Deep players can effectively get a free Platinum trophy by playing co-op with someone that already has it. Joining a Stranded Deep co-op game will cause players to unlock every trophy the host has unlocked. No plans to fix this bug have been announced at the time of this writing, so anyone interested in trying it out still has time to do so.
Those that don't have access to Stranded Deep will obviously need to get the game first, but some PlayStation gamers may already have the game without even realizing it. As some may recall, Stranded Deep was one of the free PS Plus games for May 2021. As long as one claimed the game when it was free and still have an active PlayStation Plus subscription, they can download it and attempt to do this trick to get their free Platinum trophy.
And even if one missed out on claiming Stranded Deep when it was part of the free PS Plus games lineup, the game is currently available to play through PS Plus Extra. For the uninitiated, PS Plus Extra is the middle tier of Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription service. It includes all the benefits of PS Plus Essential, but also gives users access to a bunch of PS4 and PS5 games.
The caveat to pulling off this trick to get an easy Platinum trophy is that one needs to find someone that already has the Plat in the game. The PSN Profiles forum where this exploit was discovered would be a good place to start, and the more people that get this Platinum, the easier it will be for everyone else to unlock.
