It seems as though there's a strong possibility that Extremely OK Games' Earthblade will be featured at The Game Awards tonight. Extremely OK Games' Maddy Thorson has built an impressive reputation for herself with TowerFall and Celeste, and so many have been greatly anticipating Earthblade ever since the project was first announced in 2021.After the widespread critical acclaim of Celeste, there's been a great deal of anticipation for Maddy Thorson's next project. Earthblade will be quite a different experience. Whereas Celeste was a challenging platformer with an emotional narrative, Earthblade appears to be more of an action-adventure game. Thorson has not revealed much about Earthblade since the game was initially announced, but it looks like that could change in a matter of hours.RELATED: Celeste Developer Reveals New Game EarthbladeA recent tweet from the official Earthblade Twitter account has fans buzzing that the highly-anticipated indie could be making an appearance at The Game Awards tonight. The Extremely OK Games shared a gif of Earthblade where damage is being done to enemies, with one enemy getting hit for 12 damage and the other taking 8 damage. The Twitter for Earthblade re-tweeted the Extremely Ok Games tweet with eye emojis, suggesting that the 12/8 could very well translate to December 8, the night The Game Awards is taking place.

While it certainly seems as though Earthblade is gearing up for a big reveal at The Game Awards tonight, fans should keep their expectations in check. It's unlikely, but it's possible that the numbers in the gif are just a coincidence. It's also possible that the Earthblade Twitter is trolling fans and the game won't have an appearance at The Game Awards.

If Earthblade is at The Game Awards as it's seemingly been teased, one has to wonder if the game will finally get its long-awaited release date. At the time of this writing, Earthblade has a vague 2023 release window, and it's unclear exactly when the game will be available. Various leaks have suggested that The Game Awards this year will be full of release date announcements, so one would think Earthblade would certainly be a possibility if it's at the show.

Ultimately, the only way fans will know for sure is by tuning in to The Game Awards at 5pm PT. Even if Earthblade is a no-show, fans should be able to look forward to plenty of other world premieres and other reveals during the event.

Earthblade is in development.
