Now that EA Sports FC 24 has opened the gates to another year of footballing goodness, more and more players will be jumping in and seeking to achieve glory for their team of choice. And when it comes to the best teams in the world, sometimes, a little advantage can make a world of difference. Be it against the AI or human players out there, knowing something they don't is a big bonus.

Beyond all the headliners like PlayStyles and Evolutions in FUT for EA Sports FC 24, there is still the fundamental skill of knowing how to best use the ball in any situation to create an advantage. Skills like Precision Passing and Controlled Sprint are very useful, and so are Effort Touches when used in the right places. For players hoping to gain an edge, this is a good place to start.

What are Effort Touches?

A new mechanic added to EA Sports FC 24, Effort Touches allows players to quickly push the ball in a direction of their choosing, catching defenders off guard with the sudden change in movement. This can be used either from receiving a pass as a first touch in midfield or on the dribble at speed on the wings against a retreating defender.

In both situations, getting the move right can lead to wide open space to attack the opponent's goal or buy just enough time to get a teasing cross or powerful shot at goal. For anyone who loves the game of football, having just that little room can lead to favorable outcomes.

Using Effort Touches in EA Sports FC 24

In order to use Effort Tuches, there are two methods of doing so, catering to the different situations outlined above. While dribbling, hold R1/RB and flick the right stick in the direction needed to make the player shift the ball appropriately. Such sudden movement can punish defenders who are over-committed to either side and sometimes, it can even be used to nutmeg them and get behind.

As for a first-touch situation, all players have to do is flick the right stick in the preferred direction to make their next move. Should there be a need for greater distance for the push, hold the right stick for longer to create that space. Naturally, this is best used when facing away from the goal to turn that around or to maneuver in tight spaces to escape a defender who is marking tightly.

EA Sports FC 24 is available now on PC, PS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
