While the big change is in its name, there are many other new bells and whistles to enjoy in EA Sports FC 24. With a need to differentiate this year's game from those that have come before, EA has certainly implemented many things to help players get even closer to the beautiful game via their controllers.

One of the ways EA Sports FC 24 innovates is with some brand new controls that can be invaluable tools to fool the opposition defense and get a team in the best attacking situations. Rather than count on pure speed that comes from sprinting full-on, learning how to use the new Controlled Sprint is a tool that every top-level footballer should have in their locker. This guide will lead the way to make that happen.

What is Controlled Sprint?

As the name suggests, this is a mechanic at which players are still moving with some pace but retaining more control than just the standard sprint the series has become known for. This naturally allows for more agile control and makes changing directions that much easier.

Once an opponent has committed to going one way, taken in by what they may think is a full sprint, Controlled Sprint can then allow players to wriggle out of tight situations and burst away. Players with high acceleration will benefit the most from this mechanic, and against teams that like to sit in a low block, it can be an excellent tool to find a way to score.

In order to execute this move, players simply need to hold either R1 on PlayStation or RB on the Xbox consoles to use the Controlled Sprint. Directional input matters, of course, so always look to aim for the gap when running at the defense or use the move to turn a defender when facing away from the opposition goal.

It is also wise to note that certain PlayStyles are going to benefit even more with the move. Players possessing First Touch Control, Speed Dribbler, or Fast Break can make the most of their traits and use Controlled Sprint with even more speed but also more control. By mastering this technique, everyone can become a nightmare for the defense.

EA Sports FC 24 is available now on PC, PS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
