The E3 press conferences have come an gone, and while there were plenty of interesting reveals and teases, there are some notable games missing from the show. While not all of these games have even been confirmed yet, many of them have had incredibly convincing leaks and rumors circulating about them, while others probably just need some time to cook before they're ready to be shown off.
12 Fable 4
Fable fans have been waiting quite some time for another entry in the franchise after Fable Legends was canceled by Microsoft. Even then, the canceled game wasn't exactly what fans were hoping for, as it spun the franchise away from its RPG roots into a co-op direction.
However, Fable 4 rumors have been popping up quite a bit lately, leading gamers to suspect an announcement was imminent. Unfortunately, no such announcement was made, though it's possible Microsoft could be saving Fable 4 for next year as an early Project Scarlett release.
11 The Leaked Harry Potter RPG
Tie-in games may be much less common now than they were a decade ago, but that hasn't stopped Harry Potter fans from fantasizing about their own wizarding journeys. Leaked footage of a triple-A Harry Potter RPG began circulating months ago, but there's been complete radio silence regarding the project since then. Fans were hoping that Warner Bros. would make a surprise appearance at one of the press conferences this year to show off the game, but the focus was instead put on another adaptation, LEGO Star Wars.
10 Splinter Cell
Sam Fisher has to be one of the biggest crossover characters in games right now, being featured in multiple events and various Ubisoft mobile games. When Ghost Recon: Wildlands ran an event featuring the Third Echelon agent, fans were almost certain that a Splinter Cell game was on the horizon. But, another year has passed and still no new game has been announced. As if that wasn't enough, there's a rumor that no new Splinter Cell game is even in active development right now.
9 The Leaked Assassin's Creed Game
The Assassin's Creed franchise is in a bit of a weird spot. Ubisoft has made it clear that it plans to keep updating Assassin's Creed Odyssey with fresh new content, but strong rumors of a new Assassin's Creed game have been around for a while, with a Roman and Viking setting both seeming pretty likely. Instead, Ubisoft focused on Watch Dogs Legion during its press conference, which is admittedly a bit like a modern day Assassin's Creed. However, the lack of a new Assassin's Creed still left a hidden blade-shaped hole in the hearts of many gamers.
8 Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI
To be fair, Bethesda did say that Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI wouldn't be appearing at the show, but many fans were holding out hope that Todd Howard would surprise gamers with a new trailer or some gameplay from either title. Starfield was the more likely candidate, as it's expected a lot sooner than the next Elder Scrolls, but Bethesda stayed true to their word, and what Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI will wind up looking like remains just as much of a mystery as it was last year.
7 Skate 4
The Skate franchise has earned just about as much of a reputation as the Tony Hawk games at this point, and it seems like a no-brainer that EA would want to capitalize on its popularity sooner rather than later. When Skate 3 was added to Xbox One Backward Compatibility, many gamers began speculating that a new game was on the way, but no announcement came.
While Skate 4's no-show could be part of a licensing problem - the game would feature a ton of music and clothing brands, after all - it's nonetheless disappointing that digital skaters have to stick with the last-gen entry if they want to enter the Hall of Meat.
6 A New Banjo-Kazooie Game
Nintendo's surprise Smash Bros. Ultimate reveal was the addition of Banjo-Kazooie as a DLC fighter, something that seems incredible considering that Microsoft owns the license to the franchise. But many fans were hoping for more than just a cameo in a fighting game, they wanted a full-fledged Banjo-Kazooie title - something that apparently just isn't in the cards right now.
5 Dragon Age 4
EA announced a new Dragon Age months ago but hasn't revealed any major information about the game since then. It seems likely that EA and Bioware are waiting until the game is 100% ready to show anything off, especially after the disastrous launches of both Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem tarnished the reputation of BioWare, a studio once lauded for its masterful games. Nonetheless, the absence of Dragon Age was felt during the EA Play conference this year, forcing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to pick up most of the story-driven slack.
4 Resident Evil 3 Remake
The internet began speculating about a Resident Evil 3 Remake after fairly credible leaks and teases found their way online, as they tend to do. Fans were expecting to see a trailer, or even possibly gameplay, at some point during one of the press conferences this year, particularly due to the success of the Resident Evil 2 Remake, but it appears that fans will have to wait a little while longer to battle Nemesis in 4K.
3 Rocksteady's Next Game
There are pretty much endless rumors about what Rocksteady will wind up releasing next. Word of everything from a Superman game to a Nightwing Arkham City spin-off have made the rounds at this point, but the developer still hasn't come out and said what it is working on. Fans had anticipated some news during this E3 but had their hopes dashed when Rocksteady Co-Founder and Game Director Sefton Hill stated that the studio would be staying at home in London during E3 to work on the studio's "next big project."
2 Bayonetta 3
Nintendo's E3 Direct offered a ton of updates on games in development, but Bayonetta 3, unfortunately, wasn't one of them. PlatinumGames did go on to explain that the game is still moving along and that its no-show was not a sign of any trouble. Still, with the game supposedly set for a 2019 release, it's possible Bayonetta 3 has been moved to next year.
1 Retro Studio's Project
Retro Studios made headlines recently when Nintendo announced they'd be taking over development of the next entry in the Metroid series, but that's not the only game the team has been working on. Teases of an unannounced game began with a partially-covered up character in a piece of artwork gifted to Reggie Fils-Amie on his last day with Nintendo, but not much else is known about the project. Fans were hoping for some sort of reveal for the game, or even a look at the new Metroid, but it seems they will just have to wait.
While these games may not have shown up this year, there's always next year and plenty of events between now and then. Plus, some of these games may wind up being next-gen titles, so the wait may have more to do preserving console secrets than anything else. Only time will tell, though, and hopefully, some of these games won't keep fans waiting too long.
