Zombie action survival game Dying Light released in 2015, but Polish developer Techland has been working on releasing new content for the game despite also putting together its sequel for some time. A DLC expansion called Dying Light: Hellraid released in August 2020, incorporating a dark fantasy mode for players to fight demonic skeletons, and the game's crossover with Left 4 Dead 2 returned for Halloween 2020 with fresh additions. Today, Dying Light received a new batch of content based on viking lore.

Vikings have been an incredibly popular subject in video games as of late. Major releases like 2018's God of War and 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla have tackled Norse mythology, and an Early Access indie survival game called Valheim blew up on Steam last week. Given Valheim sold over a million copies in just eight days following the success of games like Assassin's Creed, Dying Light's new "Viking: Raiders of Harran" bundle is in good company.

The $3.99 bundle is available now across all platforms, according to a launch trailer uploaded today that depicts a pair of vikings washing up on the shores of Dying Light's open-world setting and mowing down zombies with various weapons. Anyone who purchases "Raiders of Harran" will receive two outfits depicting Bjorn the Warrior and Bjorn the Berserker, a new buggy paint job called Reinen, and six weapon blueprints.

The six blueprints break down into three weapons with multiple forms: A two-handed axe named Ragnarok, a one-handed sword named Aesir, and a shield named Asgard's Protection. Each of their secondary variants deals fire damage, blessed by the Norse figure Surtr according to the trailer, and the Reinen buggy can also be equipped with a flamethrower.

Dying Light is known for adding bizarre costumes and weapons that its players can use against zombie hordes, such as a Chicken Ninja suit to celebrate Easter, and having access to fiery tools of the vikings is sure to give some fans a reason to jump back on as they wait for Dying Light 2. While a Collector's Edition box for the sequel recently leaked online, no official announcements regarding its release have been made.

The upcoming Dying Light 2 has gone through a troubled development, with multiple staffers leaving the project following its delay in January 2020 and reports of issues behind the scenes. Techland has assured fans that Dying Light 2 development is going well despite staff changes, and news is expected to come sometime this year, but in the meantime this "Raiders of Harran" bundle seems a good consolation.

Dying Light is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
