With zombies hungry for brains and flesh, the new players of Dying Light will want to pick up the first thing that they can defend themselves with. Some of the best weapons in Dying Light might not be easy to obtain, especially for new players, but that does not stop there being some great early-game weapons in Dying Light.

As a new player, the survivors of the undead virus may wonder what weapons they can use to maximize their efficiency so early on in the game, and there are plenty of choices available, as long as the player is aware that they won’t be gunning down their enemies with an arsenal of machine guns.

8 Ranger Bow

Although the Ranger Bow Harran Ranger’s Pack DLC, this weapon has great base damage and is craftable from the very start of the game. It’s an easy weapon to craft and one that players might want to carry with them for a long time. Having a weapon that shoots is always an advantage, especially when it allows them to remain in stealth through this open-world horror game.

The bow has ammunition that can be crafted thanks to its use of arrows. It deals a great deal of DPS and is the second-highest damage bow in the game. Considering it’s available from the start with the right DLC, the Ranger Bow is a must-have for Dying Light early-game weapons.

7 EXPcaliber

A unique and legendary melee weapon makes its way into Dying Light. This sharp melee weapon can be found in a scripted encounter, and it involves the player venturing to the Fisherman’s Village in the southeast part of the Slums. Here, they will want to swim out to a rocky island, an island that could be safe during the night.

On this island, players must hold the action button on the sword for 2-3 minutes to claim the sword. Considering the EXPcaliber is easy to get to from the early game, it’s a great weapon to have, even if it cannot be repaired.

6 Korek Machete

For early Survival levels, the Korek Machete is a great choice thanks to its easily accessible blueprint and 4 upgrade slots. The Korek Machete can be found on a rooftop towards the north of the Slums area of the map, and can even be seen as an easter egg in Dying Light due to its name being a reference to the developer Techland’s optimization lead.

On average, the Korek Machete can be a one-shot kill when utilized efficiently. It’s a great weapon that players will be able to find in a specific location, so they will not have to rely on looting or luck to obtain a great blueprint for an early-game weapon.

5 Police Baton

Blunt force can work like a treat against zombies, and the Police Baton is very effective against skulls, especially those that are already rotting away. Considering that the infected are everywhere in Dying Light, a Police Baton would not be hard to find, and players will be able to find one upon looting any corpse of a police officer, or infected police officer.

As a common blunt melee weapon, the Police Weapon will certainly do its job to protect and serve the player during an early game run. Although it does not have the stopping power of a shotgun or the slicing of a sword, its blunt force against heads is effective.

4 Double-Barrel Shotgun

Firearms can be quite rare in Dying Light, but certain missions and locations will allow players to find a Double-Barrel Shotgun. The reason that this shotgun is better than the rest is due to its high stopping power, and players will not eat through ammo when they are blowing zombies to bits with this high-damage gun.

Players can find the Double-Barrel Shotgun in the ruins of Fort Jefferson after they have completed the Gassed Up side quest. Alternatively, it can be found during The Saviors story mission. Otherwise, players can purchase this weapon from vendors, and it can be a rare item found in police cars and vans.

3 Bats

One of the most common weapons in Dying Light is the Bat, a blunt melee weapon that will help players get better at playing baseball by using a zombie’s head as the ball. There are many iterations of the Bat, but any of them will do, as the blunt force is great against smashing bones and cracking skulls open.

Despite being a common weapon, the Bat is something that players should not forget or leave behind. It can have a fast swing speed and will be great in the hands of a player that does not want to waste their best weapons, as the Bat can be found almost anywhere, meaning they should use it against weaker enemies.

2 Wrenches

Frequently common weapons in Dying Light can be found with the trusty wrench, a great tool for any handyman. However, amid a zombie outbreak, they are not only great tools, but great weapons for providing blunt-force trauma.

The Wrench is most effective against Biters as it is a slower melee weapon than others. However, like all blunt weapons, it’s great for hitting people in the head. The Wrench is easy to craft, and even easier to find around the streets.

1 Knives

Sharp weapons are great for cutting and taking the limbs off of enemies. As a type of sharp melee weapon, a knife is a great tool due to its high attacking speed. Players will want to use these against more agile enemies, as well as human enemies that are smarter about their attacks.

The knife is a great versatile weapon, and can even be used against slow enemies as long as players are aware of how to counter their slow swinging attacks. Knives are found almost anywhere, with multiple variations of long and short knives.
