Dying Light 2 appears to be joining forces with The Walking Dead franchise to bolster its roster of content with a new crossover event. The global popularity of The Walking Dead means that it's still highly relevant for all fans of zombie media, and though little is known about the crossover at this time, the revealed promotional image suggests some very interesting things.

Crossovers are, surprisingly enough, a particularly notable aspect of Dying Light 2's post-launch support. Specifically, the recent Dying Light 2 and Call of Juarez crossover offered players a chance to engage with a unique timed event to earn Wild West cosmetics and weapons, and something similar may be cooking once again now that a new crossover has been announced.

The official Dying Light 2 Twitter account posted about a "thrilling crossover event" with The Walking Dead coming up. The announcement features a piece of custom artwork inspired by the classic works of Alan Moore, depicting Dying Light 2 character Vincenzo as he stands over the grave of his late father, Alberto. This could very well mean anything within the context of the game, of course, but the fact that the promo has gone out of its way to make it clear it's been inspired by Moore and Kirkman's popular comic book implies that the crossover could take its cues from the comic book, specifically, rather than the TV show.

Though it wasn't necessarily the case early on, Dying Light 2's recent content updates have been pulling out all the stops, and the two known crossover events are just the tip of the iceberg. Developer Techland has been working on comprehensive upgrades to just about all of the game's core mechanics, including parkour and combat gameplay. One of the latest updates allowed the infamous Volatile infected to roam the streets during nighttime, making the experience even more immersive and oppressive.

The Dying Light 2 Gut Feeling update, in particular, delivered a huge array of physicality changes that greatly improved how it feels to interact with its game world. These big revamp updates have perhaps helped set the stage for the more content-focused updates, such as the upcoming Walking Dead crossover, which may or may not end up being a timed event like the Call of Juarez crossover.

In fact, it is possible that the upcoming Walking Dead event may offer some integration with Dying Light's Pilgrim Outpost service. Techland has been investing heavily in this feature as of late, allowing players of both of the mainline Dying Light titles to access unique cosmetics and more. Pilgrim Outpost has grown to include special community-spanning quests as well, and it is likely that the service will play an even greater role in the franchise's growth moving forward.

Dying Light 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
