Making its return in Dying Light 2 Stay Human is a Nightrunner tool called the UV Flashlight. This is considered one of the best defensive pieces of equipment in the game. One of the most dangerous enemies in the Dying Light series is called the Volatile. These creatures look and behave like the Reapers and the Strigoi as if they have leaped from the screens of Guillermo Del Toro's Blade 2 and The Strain respectively.

The Volatiles are even more dangerous in Dying Light 2 than they are in the game's predecessor. They can kill Aiden with one hit and are extremely fast, so even the best Parkour skills won't always cut it. The best way to avoid and fight back against them is by using sources of ultraviolet light with the UV Flashlight being the best. However, the UV Flashlight won't become available until the "Welcome On Board" story mission which can take some time.

Getting The UV Flashlight

The "Welcome on Board" story mission takes place around 12-15 hours into the game. Obtaining the UV Flashlight is part of Dying Light 2's main story, so it's an unmissable item. Welcome on Board references the Peacekeepers HQ, a ship called The Missy that is located in The Wharf area.

On the ship, Aiden will agree to help Major Jack, and he'll be instructed to speak to a character called Meyer to find out what the plans are. As a result, Aiden will receive the UV Flashlight, which will prove more than useful as the mission requires the protagonist to explore a nest full of Volatiles.

Upgrading The UV Flashlight

After the mission, the UV Flashlight will become a permanent fixture in Aiden's arsenal. However, the biggest downside to using is how quickly its use drains the batteries. Getting caught by a viral or a Volatile when the Flashlight's charge has drained can mean life or death for Aiden, sending the player back to the nearest Dying Light 2 checkpoint or base.

This is why it's essential for Nightrunners to upgrade the UV Flashlight as soon as possible, and these upgrades can be purchased from a Craftmaster. There are two upgrades to unlock for the Flashlight that can be costly so working on getting cash fast in Dying Light 2 can be useful. The two upgrades are as follows:

  • Cone size and battery - purchased for 1000 Old World Money and 2x Military Tech
  • Increased cone size and flash effect - purchased for 2000 Old World Money and 2x Military tech

The increased cone size for the UV Flashlight will give the weapon more range and increased battery life will mean that it lasts longer before needing a recharge.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is available now for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
