When it was released about a month ago, Dying Light 2 had a pretty decent critical reception, though some felt it was lacking in some aspects. As one of the most anticipated open world zombie video games of this generation, the hype around the follow-up to Techland's 2015 title was real. Regardless of whether people liked it or not, there are those more sadistic players who like to have their gaming prowess pushed to the very limits, and it looks as though fans will be able to get their wish with this new fan-made mod.

Uploading the file to Nexus Mods a few days ago, user URMarty has created an add-on which they simply label as "Nightmare Plus." In essence, it's a modification for Dying Light 2 that gives players much more of a challenging experience. While it's consistently being worked on by the modder, in its current state, it's described as a mode for the game that's "not for the faint of heart," so fans who really have ambitions of making the game as hard as possible now have a chance to actualize that.

Among many other things, "Nightmare Plus" adds more Virals with faster and more unpredictable spawning, as well as players receiving a much more devastating blow when attacked by zombies and other mobs. On top of that, in order to inject an element of surprise, it also removes any indication that players are being chased. While there is already a hardcore mod for Dying Light 2, it's possible that URMarty's efforts may make the game even more difficult. It may even be worth downloading and trying out both add-ons, to see which one yields the most challenging experience.

While there have been some criticisms about the sequel overall, there are some things Dying Light 2 does better than its predecessor. Most notably, the more fluid parkour mechanic has been praised by a lot of people, and, as can be expected, this latest installment has a lot going for it in terms of visuals, especially when compared to the first game, which is now seven-years-old at this point.

With Techland saying there may be a New Game Plus mode on the way, it's evident that the studio will want to keep its long-awaited sequel alive and kicking for as long as possible. It's also evident that fans such as URMarty are quick to see where things can be improved, and work towards making the experience better, or at least insanely more difficult.

Dying Light 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and will come to Switch on October 19.
