The Nightrunner tools in Dying Light 2 are game-changers for the player. There are six Nightrunner tools to unlock as they are slowly gifted to the protagonist Aiden throughout the story.

The effectiveness of the Paraglider and how it changes the way Aiden can traverse the city introduces a new dynamic in exploration. The Grappling Hook, however, provides the player so much more freedom. This guide will help provide the relevant information when it comes to unlocking and using the Grappling Hook in Dying Light 2.

Unlocking The Grappling Hook

The Grappling Hook is unlocked during the main story mission called "Broadcast," where Aiden is tasked with taking over a radio transmitter for the Peacemakers. The radio transmitter is the tallest building in the city.

During this mission, Aiden will speak to a character called Frank that has connections to the old Nightrunners faction. Frank will inform Aiden that there is some Nightrunner equipment that he should obtain from an elevator inside the radio tower.

  • Before getting to the Antenna, Aiden will need to activate the Electric substation and reconnect the numbered and lettered cables to get the power back on.
  • Once at the radio tower, Aiden will then need to complete Rowe's tasks inside and deal with a dangerous species of exploding infected.
  • Once he has received the transmitter from Rowe, Aiden will make contact with Aiden's ally Lawan over the radio as he's still trapped inside the tower.
  • After fighting off a horde of zombies, Aiden will be instructed by Frank to obtain the Nightrunner equipment from an elevator shaft.
  • Climb the wooden boxes on the left side of the room to reach the upper floor.
  • Then open the elevator doors inside is a Grappling Hook impaled in the wall.
  • Take the Grappling Hook and use it to escape by following the markers.

How To Use The Grappling Hook

Just like the Paraglider, the Grappling Hook will change how Aiden traverses the city and allow him to reach previously inaccessible places. In addition, it can be used seamlessly with the game's parkour mechanics when running and escaping from enemies.

With the Grappling Hook unlocked, the player can access it by equipping it to Aiden's inventory menu. With the Grappling Hook equipped, a reticule will indicate where in the environment the device can be attached. The options are plentiful as it will have Aiden swinging and zipping across the city like Batman or Spider-Man. For traversal and pure fun factor, the Grappling Hook is arguably better than the Paraglider.

Dying Light 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
