Hakon is not so subtle about telling Aiden to go east after Dying Light 2's initial tutorial section. The main quest is marked on the map in that direction and players will do just fine if they head over that way. But what about the explorers? In a vast world such as this, who is doing what they are told instead of collecting treasures?

Dying Light 2 rewards the curious. Those who go west instead will have nearby access to boss fights and inhibitor storage facilities. But they'll need a base of operations to strike from and their best option is going count on the ability to capture Birch Windmill.

Locating The Birch Windmill

Of all the ways to restore immunity, the most efficient, inexpensive, safe, and consistent option is to unlock a place with a UV light. In the early stages of the game, this is the main reason to take Birch Windmill since it can't be given to a faction until later on.

The windmill is on the central-west side of Houndfield, due west of Aiden's location when he's finally free to do what he'd like. Look for it in the skyline while two moving mechanisms underneath it. It's going to take some serious acrobatics to get to the top.

Traversing To The Top

Those who have racked up a lot of parkour experience fast will have extra stamina and abilities, allowing them to make many mistakes to get to the top. But most gamers at this point will have to conserve every bit of energy they've got and plan their jumps accordingly.

The task seems straightforward; from the bottom platform, jump onto the lower mechanism, then turn around, jump onto the second mechanism, and finally leap onto the platform near the top. The issue here is timing. The top mechanism makes one cycle in the time that the bottom mechanism takes two. Players should note when the mechanisms are out of sync, then jump on to guarantee the timing isn't a factor.

From here, there is no timing, but the maneuver is no less scary. If at any point, Aiden should falter, fall straight down on the trash bags below to prevent death. Turn around and find a beam painted yellow attached to another platform. Climb up and then shimmy up the ladder.

Fix the fusebox at the top, a process that will repeat with other windmills, and Aiden will claim Birch Mindmill for his own! From here, sleep, organize supplies, and enjoy the safety of UV lights are nightfall.

Dying Light 2 was released on February 4th, 2022, and is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
