Right after getting the binoculars from Hakon in Dying Light 2, gamers will finally be unleashed to explore the gigantic world. That means finding all kinds of new things and one of the closest intriguing landmarks is the Alder Windmill.
It might look inviting, but capturing the windmill itself is much easier said than done. There is a puzzle in play here that, while it isn't long, does introduce a mechanic that Dying Light 2 players will not have seen up to this point. Capturing the windmill means mastering, and timing, this new movement.
Locating The Alder Windmill
There are many points of interest that can be triangulated with the binoculars, but players will be looking for the nearest windmill. It's in the next district over, though Dying Light 2 gamers will realize quickly that the difference between these zones isn't of critical importance.
It's directly east of St. Joseph's Hospital (which can't be fully explored without more parkour levels). Along the way, players might spot a Dead Island Easter egg or useful pieces of equipment. If the going gets too tough, fall back to the Nightrunner's Hideout rest zone and head out in the morning.
Traversing To The Top
When arriving at the windmill, there is a moving mechanism that goes up and down but it is out of reach even by the best of parkour methods. There is an 'X' spot on the side that usually represents a safe place to land. But this spot is special because it doubles as a trampoline.
From the trampoline, jump and latch onto the moving mechanism when it reaches its lowest point. Have Aiden pull himself up and take a deep breath, there is no urgency to jump into the next move. It's better safe than sorry when it comes to the stamina meter because the fall here is a long way down.
Turn directly around and face the direction of the trampoline. At the top of the mechanism, jump across and sang onto the board with yellow paint on it.
Pull up and head right to find a ladder. Climb it.
From here, a yellow electrical box will be visible. Approach it, interact with it, and Alder Windmill will be captured! Along with this, players will at last gain access to a trader and another rest location. As UV lights become more scarce, this is an important stepping stone when Aiden needs to explore the rest of the city.
Dying Light 2 was released on February 4th, 2022, and is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
