Dying Light 2: Stay Human is just a couple of weeks away from release, with many fans ready to dive into the open-world survival horror action RPG. With the game’s release date nearing, developer Techland has revealed more and more about the game. It made a certain wave of sorts when it was revealed that Dying Light 2 takes 500 hours to fully complete everything before clarifying that its main story takes around 20 hours.

Techland also gave a co-op gameplay preview of Dying Light 2 as well, with lead game designer Tymon Smektala answering a few questions afterward in a Q&A. In this co-op showcase, Smektala confirmed that players could complete Dying Light 2 in four-player co-op, completing the entire campaign with friends. Everyone has some say-so in terms of choices, but the host of the session ultimately makes the choice. However, it seems players will be restricted on whom they can play with.

Smektala confirmed Dying Light 2 won’t feature crossplay but doesn’t go as far as to say that it won’t ever have the feature. While sometimes controversial in multiplayer games, as many console players are pit against PC players, crossplay in a co-op game is just a welcome addition. Specifically, Smektala answered a question about Dying Light 2 and crossplay, stating, “no, not at this moment. It won’t be available.” Relevant part begins around the 58:26-minute mark below.

Another question was posed on whether or not co-op would feature cross-gen, allowing PS4 players to play with friends who are on PS5. Smektala stated that it won’t be possible at launch, but Techland is “working to make it possible after launch.” A specific timeline of when players could expect this after launch wasn’t provided, but more details about this may come in closer to Dying Light 2’s launch.

While this may be a bummer for some fans, there’s no doubting the sheer hype around the game. It’s easily one of the most anticipated games of 2022, including early 2022. Given that Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring also launch in February, fans may have a hard time picking between these three games if they can’t afford all three. Not to mention, there are several other titles also slated for release in February, including Sifu, Lost Ark, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, Monark, and more.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 4, 2022.
