With Warner Bros.' Black Adam finally in the midst of production, it appears Dwayne Johnson has already snagged his next DC role. The wrestler-turned-actor has signed on to provide the voice of Krypto the Superdog in DC's League of Super-Pets.

Based on the Legion of Super-Pets superhero team from the pages of DC Comics, League of Super-Pets will be written and co-directed by The LEGOBatman Movie scribe Jared Stern. Also taking on co-directing duties will be Sam Levine, who previously helmed episodes of Robot and Monster in addition to providing story material for Disney's Wreck-It Ralph.

By taking on the role of Krypto in DC's League of Super-Pets, Johnson will be joining what is said to be an all-star cast of yet-to-be-announced performers who will voice the heroes and villains of the animated film. If the Super-Pets roster is anything like the team lineup from the comics, fans can expect the film to feature Streaky the Supercat, Beppo the Super-Monkey, Comet the Super-Horse, and perhaps even Ace the Bathound. Furthermore, Johnson will serve as a producer on the Warner Bros. and Warner Animation Group film, alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, under their Seven Bucks Productions banner. The team of executive producers on the DC film includes John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, and Nicholas Stoller.

A sneak preview of DC's League of Super-Pets was featured at Warner Bros.' DC Fandome event, a virtual convention that showcased the company's upcoming DC-related projects. Although the teaser was only ten seconds long, it provided viewers with a glimpse at Krypto taking to the skies with his signature red cape. The film was initially scheduled to be released in theaters in May 2021, but it was postponed until the same month of the following year.

Much like most of his comic book counterparts, the League of Super-Pets version of Krypto will resemble a Labrador Retriever and appears to possess many of the same abilities as Superman. Traditionally, Krypto is the faithful pet of baby Kal-El and is rocketed to Earth as a test subject for the vessels Jor-El intended to use to send his son away from the doomed planet Krypton.

While fans are excited to see Johnson take on the role of the titular anti-hero in Black Adam, his role as Krypto will likely be welcomed news as well. Though Johnson has no problem portraying though guys, his voice role as the Man of Steel's best friend seems equally suited to his seemingly affable demeanor.

DC's League of Super-Pets is scheduled to be released on May 20, 2022.
