Dungeons and Dragons has crossed over with Magic: The Gathering in an unexpected way in the Monstrous Compendium Volume 4: Eldraine Creatures. This mini monster manual adds a plethora of Dungeons and Dragons creatures taken directly from one of Magic: The Gathering’s most fantastical settings.

The Monstrous Compendiums are a small collection of Dungeons and Dragons materials players can use to help tell stories in different worlds. The resources contain monster stat blocks players can feature in their games, often in collaboration with other Wizards of the Coast releases, such as Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen, and Minecraft’s Dungeons and Dragons DLC.

Now, Dungeons and Dragons has released the fourth volume of the Monstrous Compendium series. This collection of creatures includes 25 unique stat blocks inspired by the denizens of Eldraine, the mystical land featured in multiple Magic: The Gathering sets. The book has almost as many monsters as the three previous Monstrous Compendiums combined, but unlike its predecessors, Volume 4 is not free: fans will need to buy the digital sourcebook for $6 from D&D Beyond to access it.

Dungeon masters can find creatures of ranging of almost every type in the Monstrous Compendium Volume 4, but many of them are Fey, fitting the fairy-tale setting of Eldraine perfectly. From the CR ½ Gingerbrute and Faerie Borrower to the mysterious CR 15 Archon of Boundaries or the massive CR 18 Beanstalk Wurm, these monsters can provide challenges for Dungeons and Dragons parties of any level.

Magic: The Gathering fans recently had the chance to return to the storybook setting in the card game as well. Wilds of Eldraine, the second set located in the realm, was released on September 7, 2023. Were that not exciting enough, Magic: The Gathering is collaborating with franchises like Final Fantasy, Fallout, and Assassin’s Creed in the near future, so there seems to be no end of these crossovers in sight.

As for Dungeons and Dragons, the collaborative DLC with Minecraft just officially went live on September 26. Players can explore the locations across the Sword Coast, and battle monsters that fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 or Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves might recognize. Dungeons and Dragons also recently released the Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk campaign, and is gearing up for Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse and the Book of Many Things before the end of the year.

Dungeons and Dragons is available now.
