Fans are one step closer to returning to Arrakis, as Dune: Part Two star Timothée Chalamet confirmed that the highly-anticipated sequel wrapped filming.

With Dune: Part Two set to cover the second half of the novel, the film will heavily focus on Paul's relationship with the Fremen group and his journey to becoming the fabled Kwisatz Haderach, which eventually leads to his rebellion against the Emperor. Pre-shooting took place on July 4 at the Brion tomb in Altivole, Italy, while principal photography on Dune: Part Two began on July 18 in Budapest, Hungary. Filming in Abu Dhabi kicked off in November.

In a post on his official Instagram account, Chalamet captured a selfie with his dad while in the desert. The caption for the image reads, “DUNE 2 WRAPPED," confirming the sequel will soon enter the post-production phase. The post comes shortly after the Oscar nominee shared a first look at Dune: Part Two with his back to the camera, standing in a desert setting.

Before Villeneuve signed on to direct an adaptation in 2017, his one condition was that he would split the Dune novel into two parts. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty in Hollywood, there was no guarantee that a part two would even be made, even with a name like Villeneuve attached. But after Dune racked up big numbers at the box office, which is impressive considering its 30-day streaming span on HBO Max while it was playing in theaters, the sequel was officially greenlit.

Like its predecessor, Dune: Part Two looks to provide some great performances, as Chalamet recently raved about co-stars Zendaya and Florence Pugh. The sequel has also added talents like Austin Butler as Harkonnen heir Feyd-Rautha, Christopher Walken as emperor Shaddam IV, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli.

Some returning cast members include Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban. Other returning crew members include Dune cinematographer Greig Fraser, writers Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth, editor Joe Walker, and composer Hans Zimmer.

Dune: Part Two will arrive in theatres on November 3, 2023.
