As a creative outlet, Media Molecule's Dreams on PS4 has allowed its players to create some impressive artwork, video games, movies, and more. Creations in the sandbox tool have ranged from photorealistic locales such as canyons to recreations of popular culture iconography like the Overlook Hotel from Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Now, fans can see these creations in virtual reality.

An update for Dreams that makes it accessible using PlayStation VR officially released today, bringing it into the ranks of other PSVR-exclusive titles like Marvel's Iron Man VR. PlayStation released a trailer to coincide its release showing off the potential of "experiencing a new way to dream" by exploring different immersive rooms in a museum that have shooting, basketball, puzzle-solving elements, and more.

Some of the major highlights in the museum include a magenta cube that transforms into Auguste Rodin's The Thinker sculpture and a rotatable display based on the realistic breakfast food made by Media Molecule's John Beech, the game's Senior Principal Designer, as part of a community contest in December. This is by no means the only creation that will be accessible in VR, but it stands out as a good catch-all example of the feature in an advertisement.

The sandbox creation tool, developed by the studio that produced LittleBigPlanet, was highly regarded during its extended early access period and has continued to draw attention since it released in February. Media Molecule's Dreams won "Game of the Year" at the 2020 Games for Change Awards on July 14, as well as "Most Innovative Game."

Adding virtual reality support should help the game soar to new heights, as creators can focus on developing experiences for players to get sucked into. Existing fan-created content like horror games in Dreams would only become more terrifying in VR, following in the footsteps of games like Resident Evil 7, and naturalistic places with a high level of detail offer a perfect excuse to get away while many are stuck at home due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As the world prepares for the release of next-generation consoles, VR is unlikely to go anywhere, as it was confirmed that Rockstar Games is working on an open-world VR title earlier this month. Media Molecule's Dreams could be another excellent showing for the potential of virtual reality, so it will be interesting to see what players create now that it is an available option.

Dreams is available now, exclusively on PS4.
