Right now, Capcom fans are anticipating a number of upcoming games. With Street Fighter 6 and Exoprimal out and receiving post-launch support, the way is clear for upcoming titles like Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Pragmata, and, perhaps most notably, Dragon's Dogma 2. Development on that title is headed by Devil May Cry series director Hideaki Itsuno and will follow up its 2012 sleeper-hit open-world predecessor. Dragon’s Dogma 2 looks to build up everything that made the original great, including giant monsters with climbable exteriors, dynamically learning NPC companions, and some surprising setpieces and twists that should help it pick up where the first game, its expansion, and their MMO spin-off stopped.

Players from Dragon's Dogma 1 are confident in Itsuno and his team's ability to deliver in the sequel. The only questions they have are how much will be added to this new title, whether there are significant story ties between the two main entries, and when Dragon's Dogma 2 will be released. At the moment, very little about the game has been revealed, with even the launch window being kept under wraps. However, Capcom will soon present Dragon's Dogma 2 again at a major gaming trade show, and this could give fans all the answers they've been waiting for.

Tokyo Game Show Is Dragon's Dogma 2's Next Stop

Riftstone

September 21 will mark the beginning of Tokyo Game Show 2023, an event that mostly focuses on Japanese games. Complete with an opening live-streamed keynote followed by several more arranged by particular developers, TGS served as the last major gaming event of the year before Geoff Keighley's Game Awards began including announcements in their proceedings. Capcom will host its own hour-long TGS block to close out September 21, and the list of games known for it already has a clear standout.

While the initially announced slate included titles like Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Monster Hunter Now, and Resident Evil 4’s VR mode, the prolific upcoming release Dragon's Dogma 2 joined the lineup later on. Unless another major title like a console Monster Hunter game is announced beforehand, chances are that Dragon's Dogma 2 could be the show’s main event. Its appearance at Capcom's 2023 Summer Game Fest stream left a sour taste in some viewers' mouths for being little more than extended footage from an existing trailer, but TGS could bring out a more informative showing.

What Dragon's Dogma 2 Could Reveal Next

Combat encounter

It's hard to judge how far along Dragon's Dogma 2 is, but if it hews as close to its predecessors as it looks their recycled bones could have pushed it further than expected. Viewers might even be greeted by a release date set sometime in 2024, though whether a solid date or time frame is shown will be telling. There is an enormous amount of information that both a trailer and a developer breakdown could go into, so from Dragon's Dogma 2's Pawn system to its new monsters, it's hard to say what else Capcom's TGS stream could address.

One topic in particular should be drilled down on, however, and that is how Dragon's Dogma 2 differs from Dragon’s Dogma 1. Showing footage of the two side-by-side they could be mistaken for the same game, so Capcom needs to put extra effort into making this third public showing really sell the newer game’s unique strengths. If it can manage that, then the number of people paying attention to Dragon's Dogma 2's future marketing can only grow.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
