In Dragon's Dogma 2 Riftstones are the player's primary way to interact with The Rift, a space between worlds where Pawns reside. The Pawns' sole guiding force is the Arisen, whom they serve with complete devotion – and Riftstones are where an Arisen can call them to action and hire them to their party.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is such a unique game that even the way you create a character can have an effect on gameplay. Let's look at exactly how it can.

Dragons Dogma 2 Riftstones can usually be found in most every settlement, but some are found out in the wilderness, too. Most Riftstones, except for Forgotten Riftstones, let you search for Pawns according to a set of filters, too. This guide explains what Riftstones are, how to use them, and some advanced Riftstone tips to get the most out of this unique Dragon's Dogma 2 system.

How To Use A Riftstone: The Basics

The Arisen interacting with a Grand Riftstone in Dragon's Dogma 2

After you find a Riftstone, press your Interact input and hold it for about one second to be transported to The Rift. While here, you can't interact with NPCs, like Vendors, aside from prospective Pawns, and if you leave the small area of this pocket dimension, you'll leave The Rift and be transported back to the normal world.

After using a Riftstone your Main Pawn and any current Hired Pawns will appear, then the space around the Riftstone will slowly fill in with Pawns pulled from other players' worlds. These Pawns are the Main Pawns of other Arisen, and your Main Pawn appears here for other players to Hire.

Essentially, when you use a Riftstone, you can curate Pawns to add to your party. Wander around and talk to the Riftstone Pawns that appear to see Vocation, skills, stats, and current Gear. Additionally, you should see a Pawn Quest on the left side of the screen, which highlights a request from that Pawn's main Arisen that will reward both of you if fulfilled.

All Pawns cost a certain amount of RC that scales with your level, and Pawns of your same level will be free to hire. If you don't have enough room in your party to hire a new Pawn, you will be prompted to dismiss another existing one.

Advanced Riftstone Options & Pawn Search Tips

Dragons Dogma 2 Advanced Pawn Search Menu UI Riftstone

The Pawns that appear upon entering the Rift via a Riftstone are not your only options. In fact, players are able to use a variety of filters and advanced search options to get exactly the Pawn they need. When in the Rift, interact with the Riftstone again to bring up a special menu.

Here, you can look at Linked Riftstones (more on that later), see Unique Pawns & Rankings, set your Main Pawn's Quest while in another world, and see all Pawns currently in the Rift. You can also start a Search command, which opens up another menu.

Here you can keep track of all the Pawns you have hired, your Favorite Pawns, your Friends' Pawns, Pawns that your Main Pawn has met in their travels, and set specific filters. In the Advanced Pawn Search menu, players can set a Level Range, preferred Vocations and gender/race, Inclination, required weapon skill, and knowledge of the Current Quest as options.

Then, the Riftstone will only pull Pawns from other players' worlds that meet these criteria. Use the Advanced Pawn Search option to find the exact type of Pawn you need, and to get help with Quests that other players' Pawns can share their knowledge of.

Forgotten Riftstones: Unique & Free Pawns

Dragons Dogma 2 Forgotten Riftstone Riftstones Guide

Forgotten Riftstones are a unique type of Riftstone that players can find strewn about the wilderness and outside of major settlements. These don't appear as solid rocks like the normal Riftstones do, and can be hard to spy from a distance. They look more like patches in the ground with some rubble on top, but when interacted with, they will reward 30 RC and proc one of two effects.

Some Forgotten Riftstones offer players a choice of Pawns restricted to criteria that cannot normally be filtered. For example, the Riftstone of the Summit only offers Pawns of the Male gender and Large Stature, while the Riftstone of Kindness only offers Pawns with the Kindhearted Inclination. These Forgotten Riftstone filters can be selected at any Riftstone once unlocked, allowing you further control over the Pawns available to hire.

Some Forgotten Riftstones are only usable once, and only offer one Pawn at random. The Arisen is not transported to the Rift for this type of Riftstone. Instead, the random Pawn will appear on top of the rubble when you activate it. This Pawn is always of a much higher level than you and costs 0 RC. If you don't hire them on the spot, though, they go away for good. If encountered again, you will have to pay the normal RC cost.
