The director for Dragon's Dogma 2, Hideaki Itsuno, shares a development update about the game, asking fans to "stay tuned" for more news about the game coming within the new year. The potential announcement of Dragon's Dogma 2 was also rumored throughout 2020-2021, between the Capcom ransomware attack and the game's original director, Hideaki Itsuno, teasing the game's existence. The Dragon's Dogma sequel was finally announced this past summer, as Capcom held a special 10th anniversary event for the franchise.Despite being over a decade old, Dragon's Dogma is a beloved and ambitious open-world action RPG from Capcom that was praised for its innovations such as the unique Pawn AI system. The announcement of the sequel had whipped the fanbase into a frenzy, who are excited to see a follow-up after so many years. After the game's reveal, there haven't been any updates from the developers, until now.RELATED: Capcom Hosting Survey for Fan FeedbackThis update came from a special message posted on Itsuno's Twitter account, where he wished his followers a Happy New Year. This message included a photo of the director visiting a shrine as a longstanding New Year's tradition and a logo for the game. Following that, he states that development of Dragon's Dogma 2 is "progressing well" and that it is turning into an "interesting" game.

This update doesn't reveal much else - no concept art, release window, or gameplay footage - but it was enough for some fans to be satisfied after the initial low-key announcement and silence afterwards about Dragon's Dogma 2. Others were also glad to hear that more news about the game will be shared in 2023, with many expressing their excitement and hoping that the developers are able to create something that surpasses the original.

Currently, one of the few things known about the upcoming open-world action RPG is that it will be using Capcom's proprietary RE Engine, the same one used for games like Resident Evil 8, Exoprimal, and Street Fighter 6. The last game that Itsuno directed, Devil May Cry 5, was also built on this engine, so the director has experience working with the tools as well. Itsuno has also stated in the past that only 60-70% of what the team initially wanted was included in the first Dragon's Dogma game, and he hoped to include the rest of these ideas into the sequel. Fans will need to wait until later in 2023 till more about the game is revealed.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is currently in development.
