Some 12 years after the release of the original franchise installment, Dragon's Dogma 2 has made its long-awaited appearance on consoles and PCs globally, allowing players to experience an even bigger adventure than before. Taking the role of the Arisen, with your trusty Pawn in tow, players will explore the vast world and battle a plethora of challenging mythical creatures as they fulfill their destiny.

One key feature of Dragon's Dogma 2 is the ability for players to create a party of AI characters to accompany them on their travels. These companions, known as Pawns, have a variety of unique skills and abilities to help you create the right team for your playstyle. There are limitations to this, however, so players will want to be aware of how many Pawns you can have at a time in Dragon's Dogma 2.

Leveling up is a staple in RPGs, but Dragon's Dogma 2's leveling system has a few nuances that players will want to know about.

What Is The Maximum Party Size In Dragon's Dogma 2?

In short, the maximum number of party members you can have at any one time is four - which will consist of the player character, their primary Pawn, and two optional Pawns. Players will have an endless number of options when it comes to companions in Dragon's Dogma 2, both in the Riftstone and out in the world while traveling through the game. Each potential companion will have a vocation, a possible specialization, and a distinct set of skills that can benefit you and your other party members as you tackle the many challenges along the road.

Your choice of Pawn may come down to a number of contributing factors, ranging from the level of the Pawn, their vocation, and what skills are needed that aren't already covered by members of the active party. For example, players with a Fighter vocation may wish to include a Mage with healing powers and an Archer to provide ranged support, but this will largely depend on individual playstyles and preferences.

How To Replace Pawns In Dragon's Dogma 2

Deciding on which Pawn to replace in Dragon's Dogma 2

Should players encounter a Pawn on their journey that they feel would be a better fit for their team than other existing members, there will be an option to replace an active party member with a new one. This is a relatively simple process, and will require choosing the new party member and dismissing the outgoing member, with the option to give them a gift upon their departure.

If players have a full party and decide they want to add a new Pawn to their party, they will have the option to do so. To do this, select the Pawn you wish to add to your party, either by interacting with them or adding them through the Riftstone menu, and select "Yes" when asked if they want to replace an existing party member. From there, you will need to choose from the two optional party members to replace, which will result in you being prompted to send them a gift and dismiss them.
