Capcom's Dragon's Dogma has grown to become a cult RPG classic since its release on the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012. Set in Gransys, a dark fantasy world, it is filled to the brim with adventure, monsters, and a magic system unique to the story. The original game felt both deep in lore and rich in history with its expansive setting and story. Gamers have been waiting for a sequel for just over a decade, and in PlayStation's latest showing, fans finally got their wishes granted.

With all the open-world greatness fans expect in Dragon's Dogma, there is more for the Capcom franchise to deliver after so many years. The combat is a highlight from the first game and fans expect to see the system refined and expanded upon in the sequel; which includes the monsters. The trailer delivered a lot of news in a quick sub-2 minute trailer featuring the many creatures that players can encounter that have been extrapolated in the following entries.

9 Dragon

Dragon's Dogma 2

The titular creature acts as a sort of way stone for the game, indicative of both its fantasy roots and Capcom's direction to include dragons as a central pillar to the world of Gransys. They have gone with a very classical version of the Dragon, featuring red scales, menacing eyes, and the ability to breathe fire.

This monster is shown in the trailer wreaking havoc by spreading its large wings and setting the ground ablaze. Dragons will be enemies and motifs throughout the game, eating the hearts of the fearless to create Arisen once again.

8 Goblin

Dragon's Dogma 2

Players will likely encounter these small enemies in hordes. The mob-like enemies are staples of fantasy. In Dragon's Dogma 2, they seem to be plentiful meat sponges to soak up sword swings for knights, become pincushions for archers, and take on the full brunt of meteors from magic-wielding battle mages.

In the trailer, goblins wield clubs and shields. Like they did in the first game, they may have a certain hierarchy to their society with chieftains and kings appearing later on in the story as players level up and need to defeat more challenging foes.

7 Cyclops

Dragon's Dogma 2

These hearty enemies are found wandering the map and wielding giant clubs while staring down players with their single eye, hell-bent on destruction. They are physically imposing and hit hard. Working collaboratively with other characters may prove useful to take down these constitutionally hearty humanoids.

Cyclops, as in their Grecian origins detail, are beasts of great strength and the trailer even shows they are capable of environmental destruction. They can easily stomp their feet and bring down wooden bridges from beneath players.

6 Minotaur

Dragon's Dogma 2

These great, hulking, charging beasts hit hard and move quickly for their lumbering size. In the trailer, they take on the classic look from Grecian lore. But instead of roaming labyrinths, they can now wander through rocky outcroppings and attack unsuspecting travelers. They can charge up their power and jump great distances in order to hunt down their prey.

Minotaurs can wield huge weapons and may prove more difficult to defeat, thanks to their ability to cover great distances with short bursts of power. Mages and other long-distance attackers may be more apt when tackling this enemy. As shown in the trailer, magic can defeat the creature relatively quickly; however, players must be mindful of spacing when in combat.

5 Griffin

Dragon's Dogma 2

This fearsome creature has the head, wings, and talons of an eagle, paired with the body of a lion. They take to the skies and are hard to pin down unless players fancy themselves a wielder of magic or a sharpshooter of arrows, or hitch a ride and take it down in the skies.

Dexterous, swooping creatures, Griffins are both regal in name and nature. They feature predominately in the trailer, whether as enemies, modes of transport, or just as centerpieces in a few of the various cutscenes clips shown during the showcase.

4 Sphinx

Dragon's Dogma 2

Even though some details are borrowed from mythology, the trailer shows no definitive answer to what this monster could be. However, it appears to be at least inspired by the sphinx. Sphinxes are majestic mythical creatures with human faces (a beautiful woman in this case), a lion's haunches, and an eagle's wings.

The trailer shows the player character interacting with said sphinx. This could mean there may be a through line of riddles or puzzles the player has to solve whether a part of a main or side quest. However, this is also doubly exciting as creatures (except the dragon) may serve as more than just enemies to mow through.

3 Gorgon

Dragon's Dogma 2

This woman cursed with hair of snakes has a gaze that can turn any mortal into stone. The most famous of the petrification creatures (sharing the mantle with the basilisk), the Gorgon is often a misunderstood creature. She is not inherently evil, but cursed due to her alleged waywardness (even though in Medusa's story it was definitely the man at fault).

Famous for their abilities to petrify their enemies, Gorgons may prove to be tricky encounters. However, the cutscenes in which the gorgon appears seems to paint them as a more complex character than one to simply fight. Is there a quest tied to this creature? Or is it simply a difficult challenge to overcome?

2 Ogre

Dragon's Dogma 2

This massive humanoid beast is featured exclusively as an enemy that characters can jump on and attack (aiming for the face is super effective). Smaller than the Cyclops, but still bigger than a human, they possess greater intelligence that does not belie their size.

This creature packs a punch and a bit of brain matter on the side. Be careful of climbing them for too long, as they have a propensity to shake off any stowaways.

1 Golems

Dragon's Dogma 2

Made from clay and shaped by the hands of men, Golems were originally servants to Rabbi and protectors of the Jewish spiritual leaders. Golems within the world of Dragon's Dogma are still made from rocks and magic, but behind that mineral carapace is a magic power that can blast players away.

Able to pack a magic punch as they can release as a beam from their faces, the trailer shows an Elven archer avoiding their powerful attacks and covering their teammates from afar as they try to close the distance and deal damage to the creature.

Dragon's Dogma 2 has a release window of 2024.
