The Makeshift Gaol Key in Dragon's Dogma 2 can be quite helpful for players who have been apprehended for their crimes. The item can make way for a quick escape for players who are stuck in a gaol, or prison as it is more commonly known. Akin to most modern RPGs, killing innocent civilians and trespassing on restricted properties during inappropriate hours is against the law.

Dragon's Dogma 2: How to Beat the Headless Horseman (Before Dawn Breaks Achievement Guide)

Hunting dangerous monsters is a regular part of Dragon's Dogma 2, but few are as rare and dangerous as the dullahan.

Upon committing such crimes, players will either have to bribe or face off against nearby guards and chances are, they'll lose. Soon, they'll wake up in a gaol cell with their inventory stripped off. Reloading save files in Dragon's Dogma 2 to erase the Arisen's current downfall is also a tiring process. Hence, this article aims to answer how players can escape jail (or gaol) with or without the Makeshift Gaol Key and where to find it in Dragon's Dogma 2.

How To Find The Makeshift Gaol Key in Dragon's Dogma 2

Players who have purchased the Dragon's Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition can access one unit of the Makeshift Gaol Key in their item storage. This storage can be found by talking to any innkeeper and selecting the view storage option.

However, not everyone has opted for the Deluxe Edition of the game and one needs to find it in the game's world. Fortunately, Makeshift Gaol Keys are not difficult to find. Players are expected to often run into them while browsing through a merchant's inventory list. Dudley the Merchant sells the item for a measly amount of 3,000 gold in the burnt-up town of Melve. If they're lucky, one may also find these Makeshift Goal Keys by breaking the pots in their jail cell.

Completionists will need to know how to summon a Harpy to earn the Harpy Joyride achievement. Here's everything you need to know.

While there are ways to find Makeshift Gaol Keys while the Arisen is inside a jail cell, the method relies too much on one's luck and is unpredictable. Hence, purchasing the item from Dudley the Merchant in the town of Melve can sort out any potential run-ins with the law once the Arisen visits large-scale locations like Vernworth or Battahl.

Where to Use The Makeshift Gaol Key

Players who run into the Makeshift Gaol Key listed in a merchant's inventory may be looking for potential uses for the item. The answer is quite straight, as the consumable item can only be used to open the doorway leading out of the jail cell. However, the Arisen still needs to figure out how to get out of the dungeon and avoid the prison guards.

Keeping a Makeshift Gaol Key in one's inventory makes it way easier for a prison break. Unfortunately, these keys can only be used once per activation. While the Makeshift Gaol Keys are not expensive, players can quickly run out of them, forcing them to suffer the consequences of their actions.

This urged the player base to look for a permanent solution to the problem and the community quickly devised a fix. Once the Arisen starts a quest called "The Caged Magistrate", Captain Brant hands him the Gaol Key.

Dragon's Dogma 2: How To Get Poison and Twisted Pinions (Enhancement Materials)

Poison and Twisted Pinions are useful weapon enhancement materials in Dragon's Dogma 2, and here is how to farm them.

This item serves the exact same purpose as the Makeshift Gaol Key, but can be used repeatedly as it does not break after usage. However, it needs to be returned to Captain Brant for the quest to progress. Players can visit Ibrahim's Scrap Shop at Checkpoint Rest Town to make a forgery of the Gaol Key for 5,000 Gold. One can also find the Jadeite Orb in the store if they have an active quest called the "Hunt for the Jadeite Orb". From there, they should wait for three days at a nearby inn or any resting stops around town.

The forgery will be ready to pick up at Ibrahim's Scrap Shop and now, players can complete the quest and return the original Gaol Key to Captain Brant. The deal is absolutely worth it, especially if one gets stuck in jail cells frequently in Dragon's Dogma 2.

How to Escape from Gaol (With or Without the Key)

Dragon's Dogma 2 Gaol

Apart from the Gaol Key duplication method, players with the Makeshift Gaol Key can open the jail cell door and make a run for the exit. The guards patrolling around the area are not likely to harm the Arisen unless they choose to loiter around. Unlike most RPGs, players do not need to fetch their own gear and items in chests.

Hence, there is no real need to look around the dungeons, unless one is looking for more loot. All the lost inventory items will return to the Arisen after they meet their pawns outside the Gaol. For players who find themselves in gaol without a Makeshift Gaol Key, looking around for cracks along the walls can help. These cracks can be destroyed with melee attacks, revealing a path to the sewer system.

Dragon's Dogma 2: How to Get Astracite

While astracite is a mineral, it's a resource you have to get from a specific enemy in Dragon's Dogma 2.

However, this method must be avoided by low-level players if possible, since they are sure to get chased by the patrolling Gaol guards. One can also choose to prevent their trip to the Gaol by bribing the arresting guard with 10,000 Gold. This is by far the worst option and should only be used if one has an excess of Gold or in the case of pursuing a time-sensitive quest. However, this method might be one's best while in Bakbattahl, as the gaol does not have a crack in the wall which leads to the sewer system.

The best chance players have of escaping Bakbattahl prison without bribing the guards is to break all the items in the cell, as there may be a Makeshift Gaol Key hidden that you can use, but it is not always the case. If there isn't a key, players always have the option to try and reload their game from the last inn save.
