The world of Dragon's Dogma 2 is full of hazards around every corner, and things grow much more perilous after darkness falls. With dangerous creatures like the Cyclops lurking around every corner, waiting for an opportunity to seize their prey, each movement in the open world during the dark is dangerous.

One such item that can help you tread your path carefully and safely is the lantern, which most players acquire by default. While the item has no defined durability, the lantern will become inoperable after its oil runs out, leaving you with no light to illuminate the dark route ahead. To keep yourself illuminated during the night and in the dark of the many caves in Dragon's Dogma 2, here is how to use and refuel your lantern.

As the lantern oil runs out, the light will gradually dim, and as soon as the lantern runs out of fuel, it stops producing light, which may be a major issue, especially while exploring the wilderness at night. So, the ideal time to refill your lantern is when it is nearly empty and the light is about to go out. There are two methods to obtain lantern oil: either crafting it using the given recipes or purchasing it from a few of the vendors you can find both inside settlements and traveling throughout Vermund and Battahl.

You must combine two rotten items in your inventory to craft lantern oil, the most common of which are Rotten Fish and Rotten Harspud. Once you have enough rotten items in your inventory, combine them to make Lantern Oil. Fish and Harspud can be bought from the General Store located in Harvey Village, which you will have to visit during the Scaly Invaders quest, but can also be looted as you venture into the open world of Dragon's Dogma 2. All the items will start to rot after four in-game days have passed since you added them to your inventory.

The second method to obtain Lantern Oil in Dragon's Dogma 2 is to buy it from merchants. Several shops in the big villages sell Lantern Oil for 100 gold. So, if you don't want to go through the hassle of gathering all the resources required to make Lantern Oil, the simplest solution is to invest your hard-earned cash and acquire some oil to refill your Lantern. Early in the game, you'll find two merchants selling Lantern Oil: Philbert's Sundries in Vernworth and Runne's Apothecary in Melve.
