Dragon's Dogma 2 not only boasts a significantly larger map than its predecessor, but it can also take pride in its ability to take seemingly simple side quests and turn them into an unexpected dose of in-depth storytelling. This much is clear when players attempt to complete the "Saint in the Slums" quest.

The "Saint in the Slums" quest will have players acquiring resources before launching a thorough investigation regarding the operation of an abbey. For players wanting to know how to get Miasmite and complete the investigation, this guide will serve as a walkthrough for this Dragon's Dogma 2 mission.

Visit The Gracious Hand

To begin the quest "Saint of the Slums", players will need to visit The Gracious Hand, a charitable organization that cares for the ill and is run by a group of nuns. It is in the south-eastern part of Vernworth, in the Slums part of the city. You will meet Elena outside the front of the building, who is calming down some upset parents who complain that their son's condition continues to worsen under her care.

After the conversation ends, players will have a dialogue with Elena whereby she discusses the shortage of resources in the organization and how she would greatly benefit from getting a restocking of Miasmite. This is the first task players will need to complete to progress through this quest.

How To Get Miasmite

Miasmite is a fairly uncommon resource in Dragon's Dogma 2 as it is only dropped from creatures that are killed by the Arisen and their Pawns during the night. This is because Miasmite is only dropped by phantom enemies, which only surface in the dark. The most achievable way to get your hands on some Miasmite is to hunt and kill phantoms during the night. They are easy to spot, as they are identified as a glowing white orb that floats in the air.

While these creatures are relatively easy to kill and won't cause too much damage, they can be quite agile and difficult to catch. Because of this, vocations like the Archer will be best suited to hunt them down, as they will be able to attack them from any distance.

Folkes Merchant in Dragon's Dogma 2

Alternatively, players can also purchase Miasmite from one particular vendor, Folkes, found in the Ancient Battleground area. This area is situated between Vernworth and Checkpoint Rest Town, so it is quite a distance to travel if you are starting in Vernworth. However, should you already be in the area searching for the key to Vernworth Vault, you can find this vendor on the first floor of the settlement. The Miasmite will cost 300 g each, so players can decide on whether they value their gold or their time more, as hunting phantoms will likely be the fastest method.

Once you have the Miasmite, deliver it to Elena back at The Gracious Hand. Afterward, venture into the building and speak with Lubomir, the Beastren patient that is lying on the bed at the back of the room. He will express his uncertainty about how The Gracious Hand is operating and ask that you investigate what is going on.

Saint In The Slums Investigation

Find Evidence

Players will first need to find out about any unusual rumors regarding The Gracious Hand. Fortunately, you will not need to venture far to find this, as one of the attendant NPCs, Lottie, mentions that she often hears screams from the basement sickroom. She goes on to tell players that none of the workers are allowed down there except for the abbess, Elena. After hearing this rumor, go back to Lubomir with your findings, who will then ask you to check what is happening in the basement sickroom.

To get into the basement sickroom, players will need to go down the stairs to the left as you enter The Gracious Hand. Once down the stairs, head through the door on the right and continue to the next room and through the curtain to the storeroom. In the storeroom you will find a bottle of unlabeled medicine above the desk and a Records of Treatment document. Take both of these and show them to Lubomir. He will ask that you give the medicine to a doctor to check, and to speak with two patients mentioned in the document - Bruno and Jehan.

You will only be able to enter the basement sickroom at night, as Elena blocks the door during the day.

Speak With Bruno and Jehan

Bruno and Jehan, the two former patients of The Gracious Hand mentioned in the Records of Treatment, are relatively easy to find in Dragon's Dogma 2, as they are in a nearby tavern to the north of the abbey. Players simply have to travel a short distance to Walter's Tavern and find the two NPCs gathered around a fire.

Both Bruno and Jahen explain to the Arisen that they were treated very well by Elena, but mention that their condition got significantly worse, to the point that they feared they would die, before they recovered. While they praised Elena for her treatment of their ailments, they both expressed that something felt strange about how the facility was operated.

Spy on The Secret Meeting

After you have spoken to Bruno and Jahen, go back to Lubomir to relay the intel you have acquired from the two former patients. Lubomir will mention that Elena frequently leaves the premises during the night to attend secret meetings and notes the suspicious nature of her movements. Players will need to tail Elena and find out what these meetings are about.

To complete this section of the "Saint in the Slums" quest, wait until nightfall and follow Elena to her meeting. She will lead you to the Common Quarter in Vernworth, whereby she exchanges goods with a suspicious NPC and takes the item back to The Gracious Hand. After witnessing the exchange, go back to Lubomir and report your findings to him.

Appraise The Unlabeled Medicine

Players will need to travel out of Vernworth to seek out the doctor they need to identify the unlabeled bottle of medicine and uncover the truth behind how The Gracious Hand treats its patients. Gamers will need to speak to Radcliff in Checkpoint Rest Town. The easiest way to get to this settlement is via the West Vernworth Oxcart Station.

Once you have arrived in Checkpoint Rest Town, follow the central path through the settlement until you reach a dead end, then turn left and venture up the hill. The path will veer to the right, which you will need to follow to get to Radcliff's house. Head inside the house and give him the medicine, which he will require time to study. Go back to him the next day, and he will explain that the medicine should not be used for treatment as, while it is capable of healing patients, it can kill those who are unable to cope with the effects of the drug.

How to Arrest Elena The Abbess

A player with Elena the Abbess in Dragon's Dogma 2

After finding out the true nature of the unlabeled medicine, players will have gathered enough information to apprehend Elena and have her sent to prison. To do this, you will need to go back to The Gracious Hand and arrest her yourself.

While this is a relatively simple process, players may not immediately know how to arrest Elena, as speaking to her as normal will only incite dialogue with her. To bring her to justice, simply approach Elena, who will likely be found near the basement sickroom, and press the grab button. This will trigger a short cutscene, followed by a transition to the Vernworth gaol, where a soldier thanks you for your services.

This action will complete the "Saint in the Slums" quest, leaving Elena imprisoned for her crimes. For completing the quest, players receive 1,600 experience points and 11,000 g.
